PCP Capital, the firm run by British financier Amanda Staveley, is interested in making a bid for Newcastle United, according to reports.
Reuters claim Staveley, who has recently been spotted in the stands at St James' Park, values the Premier League club at around £300million.
That is considerably less than the asking price slapped on the Magpies by wantaway owner Mike Ashley, who is looking for £400m.
Amanda Staveley has indicated that she will be interested in purchasing a top-flight club
Ashley released a statement earlier this week in which he confirmed that he would listen to offers for the club he has controlled for a decade, with the aim of selling up by Christmas.
The Sports Direct mogul will also accept staggered payments for the club which he bought for £134m in 2007.
Staveley, a former girlfriend of Prince Andrew, orchestrated the sale of Manchester City to Sheik Mansour in 2008. And last season she made a failed bid for Liverpool in partnership with Chinese backers.
Staveley was pictured in the stands at St James' Park during a recent game against Liverpool
She is said to have around £28billion of sovereign wealth under her management.
The 45-year-old was seen in the stands during Newcastle's recent draw with Liverpool in the Premier League.
PCP Capital would potentially face a bidding war for Newcastle, with four parties understood to have signed non-disclosure agreements prior to entering into negotiations with Ashley over the possible purchase of the Magpies.
