Antonio Conte praises Chelsea's young stars as he claims they 'all played a very good game' in Carabao Cup victory over Everton

  • Chelsea beat Everton 2-1 on Wednesday to progress to quarters of Carabao Cup
  • Manager Antonio Conte rang the changes at Stamford Bridge against Everton
  • The Italian gave starts to Charly Musonda, Ethan Ampadu and Kenedy

Antonio Conte was delighted with how youngsters Charly Musonda, Kenedy and Ethan Ampadu fared in Chelsea's 2-1 victory over Everton on Wednesday.

Goals from Antonio Rudiger and Willian were enough for Chelsea to see off Everton at Stamford Bridge and progress to the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

Antonio Conte rang the changes following Chelsea's victory over Watford on Sunday, giving Ampadu, who played in central midfield, just his second appearance, while starting Kenedy at left-wing back and using Musonda at left wing.

And speaking after the match, the Italian manager said his youngsters had very good games.

'The performance was very good, especially in the first half when we created chances to score,' Conte said. 'In the second half we suffered a bit - it's normal when you play against Everton.

'Everton are a good team and have just changed the coach and usually in this type of situation, the players want to try to give more. For this reason, this game was dangerous for us.

'But I am very happy - tonight I saw a lot of positive things - the young players' performance. Charly Musonda, Kenedy, Ampadu - he is only 17 years old - they all played a very good game.

'It is important to trust in these players and I am happy because I had a good answer, the answer I was waiting for. The other good news was to see Danny Drinkwater.

'I think that in these type of games the young players are improving - to see Ampadu tonight is important because we know we have many young players we can improve and give them opportunities.

'These young players want to improve and work and to see them doing the training session, I am very happy.'

Conte and his Chelsea side will find out who they draw in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Thursday at 4pm.
