Manchester City are set for a significant boost with Benjamin Mendy gearing up for a return to England next week.

The 23-year-old has spent almost a month in Barcelona after surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained during victory over Crystal Palace in September.

Mendy has been looked over by Pep Guardiola's preferred doctor, Ramon Cugat, while staying in Catalonia.

He stayed in a similar apartment to Ilkay Gundogan while the midfielder battled his own injury last season.

Mendy has undergone pulse massage patterning and hopes to make himself available before the end of the season.

The left back remains involved with City despite the long-term setback, messaging team-mates and often taking to social media during and after matches.

He was pictured with Vincent Kompany in Barcelona earlier this week, with the City captain set for a return to training next week.

Kompany has been out for almost two months after playing on with a calf injury during Belgium's 9-0 thrashing of Gibraltar at the end of August.

The central defender suffered another problem in late September but, after tests with Dr Cugat, has been cleared to join in with Guardiola's first team over the next seven days.
