Sean Dyche admitted links to the Everton job are flattering but claimed Burnley remains his priority.

Dyche is a frontrunner for the role at Goodison Park after Ronald Koeman was sacked earlier this week.

David Unsworth has taken caretaker charge and Everton would need to shell out £2.5million in compensation after Dyche 46-year-old signed a new contract last summer.

‘You’re always flattered at your work being recognised,’ Dyche said. ‘It’s right that I get asked about if of course and they are another good club. But I’m respectful of this club.

‘It hasn’t changed. I’ve said a few times at varying clubs being mentioned. You just get on with it.

‘I’ve had the experience of it, more so the last couple of years. I just continue to get on with it. Times have changed with different ownership and with the fans and coaches from afar.’

Newcastle’s visit on Monday coincides with Dyche celebrating his five-year anniversary with the Clarets.

But Burnley go into that game having scored just two goals in four Premier League games at Turf Moor this season.

Dyche rejected suggestions their home form is a worry and added his ‘surprise’ at being at the club for half a decade.

‘I am surprised in the modern world,’ he said. ‘It's a massive amount of time. The biggest thing is expectations not being aligned. There are so many differentials that can change. You never know what’s around the corner.

‘The building work that’s gone on here has been good for everyone. Nobody wants managers changing every week.

'We're in good form, good shape. I've got to be honest, when I got here it was a club coming back into control financially. There was a lot of trimming to be done and reorganising.

'You get the first promotion against all odds really and all of a sudden it's a different world. A big challenge the first time round. Coming down and going back up is a marvellous achievement. I'll reflect on that for many years to come. The progress has surprised me, not to the level it's got.'
