Manuel Lanzini calls on West Ham to build on Carabao Cup victory against struggling Crystal Palace

  • West Ham face fellow strugglers Crystal Palace in Premier League on Saturday
  • The Hammers were boosted by midweek victory over Tottenham in Carabao Cup
  • Slaven Bilic's side came back from 2-0 down at the break to win 3-2 at Wembley

Manuel Lanzini has warned his West Ham team-mates they have no time to sit back and celebrate their win over Tottenham as their real test will be beating Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Argentine star has hailed his side after they came back from 2-0 down at the break to win 3-2 at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday, booking their spot in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

The Hammers feel they now have to prove they can produce the same winning mentality in the Premier League as they prepare to face struggling Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

‘This was such a very important gave so for us for many reasons,’ Lanzini said after the Spurs win. ‘We now need to keep going like this — working very hard.

‘This performance was vital for the mentality of the team. Now we take a good spirit into the game on Saturday. It is another big game at Crystal Palace — and they have a good team.

‘Now we have to maintain the same level we showed against Spurs. Now we have to train hard ahead of it and go in with same mentality.

‘We changed tactics for the second half and that changed the game. It was important for the coach because the win was very important for him.

‘The game against Spurs was good for the confidence — for the coach, for the players and we now need to keep going like this. And that’s it.’

It was two goals from Andre Ayew and a third from Angelo Ogbonna which completed the second-half comeback.

Ayew said: ‘Palace is a massive game for us. Saturday is very important and we will work hard for it. It’s not been easy. It’s been tough but if we stick together we can get out of this situation.’

On Slaven Bilic and his future, Ayew added: ‘When you are at a club like West Ham and the results are difficult, the manager is under pressure.

‘But so are the players. We have to keep working hard and the manager knows the players are behind him we will give we everything we can. There is a fighting spirit.’

Meanwhile, Tottenham travel to Manchester United tomorrow looking to get back to business.

‘We were not flying or anything in our heads but I think it’s a good reality check that you still need to work very hard, even if you’re 2-0 up, to get results,’ Toby Alderweireld said.

‘You have to keep the level up because if you drop it a little bit you see what happens. It’s a good thing to learn. Of course we’d love to have won but we don’t have to be too dramatic about it.’

It remains to be seen whether Harry Kane will be fit for selection after a hamstring niggle against Liverpool last week. He was left out of the squad for West Ham.
