Marco Silva insists keeping Watford in the Premier League remains his priority despite the Hornets' climb up the table.

A run of seven out of a possible nine points lifted the club to sixth in the table with further advancement only ended by a 4-2 defeat at Chelsea last Saturday.

Silva, however, refuses to revise his ambitions beyond his stated aim of staying in the top flight.

'The position is not the most important. What is important is to compete and try to take points in each game,' Silva said at a press conference.

'This is how we plan the week, each day. And if, after the game, we take the points then we look at the table and the position is better, then great.

'But we don't change one word of our goal. This is clear for everybody: to keep Watford as a Premier League club. I believe we can achieve our goal and do better than the last two seasons.

'I am happy with how we play, how we compete to take points in every match. We need to prove this every day.'

Watford host Stoke on Saturday and Silva insists his players should not be disheartened by their defeat at Stamford Bridge.

'We competed to take points. A bad result can happen and we didn't deserve it, but this can happen in football,' Silva said.

'I'm sure they understand in that match we showed our way. We were disappointed because we know what what we did in the match.

'Of course if we lose the match and our opponent is better than us, then we understand that. But what happened means our frustration is big. But now is the moment to close the match and look forward.'
