It wasn't the thriller many had hoped for, but more of a Jose Mourinho classic.

The Portuguese tactician masterminded another pragmatic display from his side as Anthony Martial came off the bench to score a late winner and bag the three points.

Despite it not containing the goals, the game was an eventful one with several talking points. Sportsmail were on hand to sweep up anything you might have missed from United's slender victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford.

David de Gea's new hairstyle

The Manchester United shotstopper was seen sporting a new trendy hairstyle during their Premier League clash with Tottenham.

The Spaniard is the latest footballer to don a top knot joining the likes of team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gareth Bale.

Perhaps it was the cool customer Ibrahimovic who inspired the sudden change of style?

Just a sh*t Harry Kane... apparently

United forward Romelu Lukaku came under scrutiny from his opposing fans on Saturday.

The Spurs faithful sung at him in their numbers 'You're just a sh*t Harry Kane' throughout the game.

But it somewhat backfired as the Belgium international flicked the ball on for the winner and in actual fact has six more Premier League goals to his name than the Spurs man.

Tottenham's miserable Old Trafford record gets worse

The torrid record extends to 21.

It appeared as if the game was going to limp over the finish line with Tottenham securing a rare point away at United.

But super sub Anthony Martial came off the bench to down Mauricio Pochettino's side and earn three valuable points.

Spurs have now lost 21 Premier League away games at United - more than any other side in the competition.

United love leaving it late

Jose Mourinho's side have by far scored more goals in the final 10 minutes of Premier League games than any other side.

Martial's 81st minute winner was the 10th goal they have scored in the last 10 minutes of league games, accounting for 43% of all their goals scored.

Gary Neville praises Dele Alli for not headbutting Ashley Young

Neville, who was commentating on the game for Sky Sports, rather bizarrely paid credit to Alli, a professional footballer, for resisting the temptation to headbutt fellow professional Young.

The United defender squared up to Alli after an altercation resulted in a drop ball and then immediately turned into a Spurs a free-kick.

Clearly unhappy with the decision Young decided to make it known before exchanging verbals with Alli and going head-to-head with him.

The Spurs man, who has been known to lose his cool in the past, appeared as if he was going to push his head forward into Young's but stopped himself and gave a wry smile.

Neville then praised the 21-year-old on air, saying: 'He deserves credit for keeping a cool head there. Inside his head he would have been saying "I want to break your nose".'

Martial the super sub

It's becoming a bit of a habit.

It will be hard for the French forward to state a case for breaking into Mourinho's starting XI now despite netting the winner.

The French forward's goal was his fourth off the bench in the Premier League - which is more than any other player so far this season.

Jose Mourinho will be glad October is almost over

Manchester United have only managed to score in the first-half just once in all competitions during the whole of October.

It really is quite an extraordinary stat and one that highlights their significant drop in form in front of goal since the start of the season.

Mourinho's men will be glad to see the back of October but will have to play one more game this month against Benfica in the Champions League.

United players come out with different names on their shirts

All the United players came out at Old Trafford with different names on the back of their shirts.

Many baffled fans took to social media to ask why the players were doing this after the Sky Sports cameras captured the back of their jerseys.

The reason behind it is United's sponsors Chevrolet have an initiative called 'Beautiful Possibilities', which helps provide children with a stable environment to play football.

And one of the things it encourages is for the United first team to wear the name of the mascot they walk out on to the pitch with on the back of their shirt.

Before kick-off the Red Devils stars removed their tops to put their official jerseys on and gave the other tops to the young United supporters.
