Good night!

Thanks for joining Sportsmail on a night where Burnley edged out Newcastle in a tight affair at Turf Moor thanks to Jeff Hendrick's 74th-minute winner.

The result sees Burnley go seventh in the table, overtaking Newcastle who drop to ninth after 10 matches played.

We hope to see you again next time for more live coverage of the Premier League. Have a good one!

Match report from a 'torturous affair'

JACK GAUGHAN: It was ever thus for Sean Dyche. Five years to the day might have passed since he growled into east Lancashire but efficiency still wins.

Not a Burnley display Dyche will remember but a huge three points nonetheless, sealed by the vibrant Jeff Hendrick with 16 minutes remaining when a goal appeared beyond a torturous affair.

There seemed no anniversary fireworks would supplement the fanfare until Hendrick popped up to thump past Rob Elliot, a result they scarcely deserved. Only their third victory at Turf Moor in the last 13 games in all competitions. A huge sigh of relief on a night of no discernible quality.

Job done for Sean Dyche on his fifth-year anniversary as Burnley boss

You know what to expect from Burnley

Tonight's match was perfect for Sean Dyche's Burnley. The Burnley boss said before the match he was predicting a tight game and so it proved tonight.

It's seven 1-0 wins for Burnley since the start of last season and Sky Sports show the consistency in the Clarets' results so far this campaign - the 3-2 win at Chelsea being the one exception.

22:06
Lejeune at fault for the goal

Jamie Carragher, speaking on the Sky Sports' coverage of the match, highlights the Newcastle centre back Florian Lejeune and his role in the goal.

Lejeune becomes attracted to the ball allowing space in behind him, which allows Gudmundsson and Cork to exchange passes in the build up to Hendrick's goal.

There's also a shout for a free-kick for Newcastle a minute before the winner as Perez was felled.

21:51
Full time Burnley 1-0 Newcastle

Jeff Hendrick's second-half goal is enough to give Burnley all three points at Turf Moor.

The hosts probably edged it but there wasn't a plethora of chances in a match which admittedly won't live too long in the memory.

Still, Sean Dyche celebrates five years in charge of Burnley with a very Sean Dyche-esque result. Plenty of defensive organisation and long balls leading to a 1-0 home win.

While there wasn't much in the way of attacking threat, Burnley certainly proved why they are one of the more well-drilled sides in the table at the back. Barely gave Newcastle an inch.

Burnley go seventh while Newcastle are ninth in the table.

Jeff Hendrick fires home the winner from close range
Benitez (right) trudges off after seeing his side lose at Turf Moor
21:50
Hayden shot saved!

Pope is forced into a diving stop to deny Hayden from 25 yards out! The Burnley keeper turns the shot round the post for a Newcastle corner which Elliot comes up for...

The corner is cleared but only as far as Shelvey, who crosses into the box and Manquillo arrows a header on goal. It goes narrowly over. That could be that for Newcastle.

21:49
Three minutes injury time

Can Newcastle find a way through! Just three minutes of added time here at Turf Moor.

21:48
Barnes chance!

Some actual build-up play leads to Hendrick laying off a chance for Barnes.

His effort from outside the box is fired on goal forcing a good stop from Elliot. Newcastle leaving some gaps at the back.

21:46
Shelvey straight at Pope

Yedlin's pass leads to Shelvey having another effort from outside the box and for once a Burnley body isn't flung in the way of the shot.

It doesn't have the pace to trouble Pope, though. And it's a comfortable save for the Burnley keeper. Newcastle need something here! Burnley dropping deeper as they defend their lead.

21:41
Gayle on, Diame off

Gayle comes on to replace Diame. Gayle will partner Joselu up front as Rafa Benitez's side push more men forward in search of the equaliser.

21:40
Joselu just wide

Yedlin cuts inside and lays off for Joselu who drags his effort just wide.

Probably Joselu's best sight of goal tonight but he can't get his shot on target. Not an easy chance.

Burnley shutting up shop not, five-man midfield with Barnes isolated up front on his own.

21:38
Murphy on, Ritchie off

A second change for Newcastle who take off Matt Ritchie and bring on Jacob Murphy. Like for like as they go for the equaliser.

21:35
Substitutions from both sides

Newcastle respond with a change as Hayden comes on for Ayoze Perez.

And Burnley make a substitution of their own as Defour comes off for Westwood.

Tarkowski picked up a yellow card in the aftermath of the goal for a challenge on Joselu.

21:31
BURNLEY GOAL 1-0

We have a goal! Jeff Hendrick fires Burnley into the lead from close range!

Some nice interchange between Cork and Gudmundsson sees the former shoot on goal, his effort is pushed out by Elliot.

But only as far as Gudmundsson who crosses ahead of the outstretched Elliot. Hendrick does well to control and fires home from two yards out with the Newcastle defence all at sea.

Hendrick celebrates his goal
21:31
Cork chance!

Cork waits for the ball to drop before firing a half-volley on goal which goes narrowly over Elliot's bar.

It appeared to take a deflection on the way through but the officials award a goal kick

21:27
Who will make the first change?

These two are playing out a stalemate tonight and it will be interesting to see which manager makes the first change.

As the home side, Burnley's Sean Dyche might be forced to. He has Vokes on the bench and Barnes has struggled to get much luck up front so far.

21:20
Cork - Yellow Card - 63 minutes

Jack Cork is shown a yellow card for a cynical foul - bringing down Matt Ritchie who was embarking on a counter-attack for Newcastle.

Second caution of the match - as Cork joins his team-mate Gudmundsson in Mike Dean's book.

21:20
Hendrick offside again

Jeff Hendrick is caught offside yet again. The midfielder fails to time his run correctly and is caught out by the linesman.

Frustrating for Burnley as they had worked a decent opening there. The home side are starting to gain more of a foothold now with Cork and Defour heavily involved in midfield.

Final ball still lacking though - crowd beginning to get frustrated with Burnley unable to carve their way through Newcastle's defence.

21:15
Joselu takes one for the team

Joselu presses high up the pitch and dives in the way of Nick Pope's clearance.

Unfortunately for the Spaniard the keeper's clearance catches him below the belt and we have a break in play while Joselu receives some treatment. Painful to watch

21:12
Tarkowski header

Two chances in two minutes!

A Robbie Brady free-kick is floated into the Newcastle penalty area and Tarkowski gets on the end of it at the far post.

Tarkowski can only head straight at Elliot though, resulting in a comfortable save for the goalkeeper. It is livening up here at Turf Moor though!

James Tarkowski aims a header on goal
21:10
Perez chance

We have a chance! Ayoze Perez forces a good save from Pope.

Joselu lays off for his compatriot Perez, who curls an effort on goal from just outside the box.

Pope makes a diving stop pushing out for a corner - which Newcastle fail to take advantage of.

Nick Pope at full stretch to deny Perez
21:03
Second half kick-off

Newcastle get us back underway.

And we get going with two strong challenges from either side. First Tarkowski flies in to deny Atsu with a strong sliding challenge.

Then Diame catches Cork resulting in a Burnley free kick. The Clarets bomb it in and eventually Defour finds Hendrick in space in the box - only for the flag to go up for offside.

20:59
Defences on top

It's gone as expected so far. Tight affair with well-drilled defences on top and giving very little away.

When Yedlin for Newcastle, and Brady/Ward for Burnley have got in behind the delivery hasn't been good enough to trouble the goalkeeper.

Let's hope for more in the way of chances in the second half.

Matt Ritchie wins an aerial challenge with Stephen Ward
20:48
Half-time 0-0

There's been little in the way of clear-cut opportunities from Turf Moor so far. Christian Atsu probably had the best chance of the opening period but blazed over.

Both sides are lumping it forward, in slightly differing manners, but they haven't been able to muster much in terms of efforts on goal.

20:47
Booking - Gudmundsson

Another example of crosses letting Newcastle down. Ritchie plays two one-twos with Yedlin but the American fires his cross straight into the arms of Pope.

Up the other end Burnley find themselves in behind the Newcastle defence but fail to carve open a chance.

Newcastle break and Gudmundsson brings down Perez - earning a yellow card.

Gudmundsson (right) was booked towards the end of the first half for Burnley
20:44
Atsu's effort blocked

Another raking Shelvey ball forward is nodded down by Perez into the path of Atsu.

The Ghanian opts to take a touch and his effort is well blocked by Matt Lowton. Burnley's defence are the best at blocking shots in the Premier League.

You feel like Atsu might be the man to stretch Burnley's defence but he hasn't been given much opportunity to run at them so far this half.

20:41
Both teams taking to the skies

There has been A LOT of aerial action so far. Supporters at Turf Moor will have sore necks at the end of this half trying to keep up with the play.

Burnley are aiming to get in behind Newcastle's midfield and spray crosses in from deep, a tactic which hasn't born much fruit yet.

The away side meanwhile are looking to Shelvey to play balls in over the top but so far his passes haven't resulted in much in the way of opportunities.

Burnley and Newcastle gave little away during first 40 minutes
20:35
Collision in midfield

Diame and Hendrick collide in midfield leaving both players stricken on the Turf Moor turf.

It allows us a chance to draw breath. Both players get up and look OK to continue. It's been a lot of high balls but not a lot of quality so far from both sides.

20:33
Barnes chance

Yet another Brady cross, this time from deeper, leads to a Burnley opportunity.

Yedlin inadvertently deflects Brady's ball up into the bath of Barnes but the striker misses the target with his header.

20:31
Lot of crosses, not many chances

Both sides are firing balls into the box now but without much accuracy.

Burnley's Ward has been uncharacteristically off with his crossing while Yedlin for Newcastle hangs his effort up too close to Pope to claim. Both teams getting in behind but failing to nail their deliveries.

The latest is a Robbie Brady miscue which almost catches out Elliot but the Newcastle backpedals and catches the ball in.

Not many clear chances early on
20:28
Brady's dangerous delivery

Brady's free-kick causes further problems to Newcastle's defence.

The winger floats one in behind Newcastle's backline and Tarkowski, up from the back, stretches to meet it.

He shoots into the side netting but the offside flag had already been raised against the Burnley man.

20:26
Strong challenge on Perez

Robbie Brady catches Ayoze Perez with a nasty looking challenge as he steps on the Spaniard's foot.

Perez goes down writhing in pain and Mike Dean assesses his condition before opting not to book Brady.

Shelvey makes a complete mess of the free-kick and gifts possession to Burnley. Diame then gives away a free-kick with a silly foul.

20:19
Shelvey effort

More good work from Atsu down the right flank finds Shelvey just outside the area.

The midfielder unleashes a powerful effort which stings the palms of Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope before he gathers. Good effort but comfortable save.

Newcastle growing into the match more now.

20:18
Fast pace to proceedings - 17 minutes

It's a fast start to the match from both sides.

Burnley are dominating the ball but aren't messing around with it, looking to cross balls into the box at any opportunity.

Newcastle meanwhile are waiting to counter with Atsu an effective outlet so far.

James Tarkowski clears ahead of Ayoze Perez
20:16
Magical pass from Shelvey

Shelvey provides a wonderful exhibition of his passing with a raking long-ball forward from well inside his own half.

His ball falls perfectly in behind Stephen Ward and into the path of right back Yedlin but the American's cross is cleared by Tarkowski.

20:11
Atsu chance

Atsu bursts forward on a surging run down the right flank and his cross forces a corner.

Ritchie's corner leads to a ricochet off Jack Cork then Diame, the ball falls to Atsu but he fires over with a snap shot. Might have done a little better there.

Newcastle's first chance of the match.

20:09
Burnley chance!

A well-placed Robbie Brady free-kick finds Jeff Hendrick down the channel.

The Irishman hangs up a cross towards Barnes and the striker clatters into Newcastle keeper Elliot. The ball goes out for yet another early corner but Elliot claims with more assurance this time.

It's been aerial bombardment from the home side so far with three corners already. Looks like they are targeting Elliot.

Burnley dominating possession early on
20:07
Positive start from home side

Jack Cork skips past two Newcastle shirts and fires in a cross. Burnley force a corner, then another but nothing comes off the set pieces.

Good start from Burnley who have begun the match on the front foot. Turf Moor in full voice. Defour and Cork looking comfortable on the ball and looking to force the issue.

20:01
Kick-off

And we are underway at Turf Moor.

Newcastle inexplicably concede a free-kick straight away and Nick Pope launches a long ball forward from the set piece.

The ball bounces in front off Jeff Hendrick who drags an effort wide. First chance inside the first minute!

19:59
Minute's silence

There is a minute's silence before kick-off for remembrance day as it is Burnley's final home match before November 11.

Players are also wearing special poppies embroidered into their kits.

19:57
One goal wins it?

Gary Nevillle isn't anticipating a 4-3 thriller tonight.

Speaking on Sky Sports's Monday Night Football coverage, Neville was asked what wins the match at Turf Moor.

'One goal', he bluntly responded. Let's hope he's wrong!

19:53
Shelvey the key man?

Jonjo Shelvey might be the Newcastle man most likely to unlock Burnley's stern defence tonight especially in the absence of creative midfielder Mikel Merino.

Shelvey is a maverick and has let himself down with silly on-field issues but possesses a passing range few English midfielders can match.

He could be key to Newcastle's chances here sitting in a deep role alongside Mo Diame. Expect him to look to spray passes over the top of Burnley's well-drilled defence.

Shelvey will be key to Newcastle's chances of victory
19:49
Dyche predicting a tight game

Speaking before kick-off, Dyche said: 'I'm very proud of the work that has been done [over the past five seasons[ by a number of people - the staff and the board.

'Newcastle had a good start and I'd imagine it will be a tight game. They've given a good account of themselves but so have we.

'I think we've moved on slightly and we've played well at home without being rewarded. We have to find a way of winning games'.

19:43
Unhappy Mondays

Newcastle have lost their previous 11 away league matches played on a Monday heading into tonight's match.

The Magpies are also winless in their last four away visits to Turf Moor in league competition, losing three and drawing one.

Benitez's side have made the best start to life by a newly-promoted side in the Premier League since West Ham in 2012-13, who also had 14 points from their first nine games.

Newcastle have a poor recent record at Turf Moor
19:34
Five more years please, Sean!

JACK GAUGHAN: Spotted at Turf Moor: A banner reading 'Five more years please, Sean'.

A lovely banner, although it feels a little unlikely. His stay here has been magnificent and suitors continue to circle...

19:33
More on Burnley's defence

Dyche has drilled Burnley into one of the league's meanest defences with the Clarets rarely allowing an inch to the opposition (unless it's table-topping Manchester City last weekend).

The sale of Michael Keane has seen James Tarkowski thrust into the XI and he has responded magnificently by forming a solid partnership with Ben Mee.

Burnley have blocked 62 shots this season and made 317 clearances. Tarkowski and Mee account for 32 of those blocks.

Newcastle's front man Joselu meanwhile is not the most prolific with six goals from his 28 Premier League appearances.

Burnley have conceded nine goals in nine games so far this season
19:28
Nailed on for a draw?

Burnley and Newcastle are two of the Premier League's more organised teams with eight and nine goals conceded so far respectively. Those are the fourth and fifth-best defensive records in the table.

Up the other end Newcastle have scored 10 while Burnley have managed just eight. Not predicting a goal fest at Turf Moor tonight...

19:20
Newcastle's stars ahead of kick-off
Dwight Gayle is among the substitutes
Rafa Benitez's side can go sixth with a win
Isaac Hayden is replaced in the starting line-up by Diame
19:12
No Merino for Newcastle

Mikel Merino misses out through a back injury. The midfielder scored Newcastle's winner last time out with a header against Crystal Palace.

Hayden is replaced by Diame in central midfield. Expect Shelvey and Diame to sit with Perez, Atsu and Ritchie providing support to Joselu up top.

19:10
Barnes replaces Wood

Sean Dyche has opted to go with Ashley Barnes up front in place of the injured Chris Wood. Sam Vokes is fit enough for a place on the bench.

Gudmundsson replaces Arfield in midfield. Burnley will play Defour and Cork in behind Jeff Hendrick with Brady and Gudmundsson providing width on the flanks.

Burnley's defence remains unchanged as it has done throughout the season so far.

19:02
Team news

Burnley (4-5-1): Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward; Gudmundsson, Cork, Hendrick, Defour, Brady; Barnes

Subs: Arfield, Wells, Westwood, Long, Vokes, Bardsley, Lindegaard

Newcastle (4-2-3-1) : Elliot; Yedlin, Lejeune, Lascelles, Manquillo; Shelvey, Diame; Atsu, Perez, Ritchie, Joselu

Subs: Darlow, Clark, Gamez, Hayden, Saivet, Murphy, Gayle

18:58
Burnley's (lack of) home comforts

Burnley turned Turf Moor into a fortress last season with 10 wins, three wins and six losses from their 19 matches

But this campaign they've won just once at home - against bottom-placed Crystal Palace.

Newcastle meanwhile have won once away from home, against Swansea. They drew their last away match 2-2 with Southampton.

18:55
Wood not in the squad

Burnley big man Chris Wood is not in the squad for tonight's match after failing to recover from a hamstring injury.

He is likely to be replaced by Sam Vokes, who has himself recovered from an abdominal strain.

18:52
Dyche marks five years in charge

It's indicative of how brief a Premier League manager's lifespan is that Sean Dyche is currently the third-longest serving manager in the division.

Dyche marks five years in charge of the Clarets this weekend - he was appointed on this day in 2012.

And his success with limited resources at Burnley has attracted the attentions of Everton, who are searching for a replacement for Ronald Koeman.

Dyche refused to rule anything out when asked about the Everton links on Saturday and admitted he would like to progress but also said he must be careful what he wishes for.

Sean Dyche was appointed on 30 October 2012
18:48
Newcastle can go sixth!

Newcastle have made a promising start to their first season back in the top flight and currently sit eighth after four wins from their opening nine matches.

Rafa Benitez has turned the Magpies into one of the most well-drilled outfits in the division in their first season back in the top flight.

A win at Turf Moor would lift Newcastle to sixth, overtaking Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

Ayoze Perez and Jesus Gamez arrive at Turf Moor
18:46
Good evening

And welcome to Sportsmail's live coverage of Burnley against Newcastle on Monday night football.

It's a clash of two of the Premier League's more organised outfits and just one point separates the sides in mid table prior to kick-off.

The action from Turf Moor gets underway at 8pm with team news expected shortly

Jeff Hendrick's second-half winner settled an uninspiring affair at Turf Moor as Sean Dyche celebrated his five-year anniversary with victory.

With defences on top for the majority of the match, Burnley finally found a way through as Hendrick fired home from close range in the 74th minute to settle a drab contest.

Read the full match report from Sportsmail's JACK GAUGHAN as Burnley go seventh in the table with their second home win of the campaign.
