Chelsea have a policy of only giving one-year contracts to players over the age of 30, and it remains to be seen whether they will adjust that to accommodate a player who is said to be integral to manager Antonio Conte's plans.

The Times says Conte has 'given Fabregas assurances that he remains a key part of the squad at the Bridge, following the summer arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco.

He has previously been in and out of the starting XI under Conte but has made nine Premier League appearances this term, including eight starts.

Since joining the Blues from Barcelona in 2014, for a fee of £30million, Fabregas has made 148 appearances for the club, scoring 19 times.
