The return of Paul Pogba to the Manchester United fold will benefit the entire club and particularly big money striker Romelu Lukaku, insists club legend Paul Scholes.

Pogba has now been away from the United set-up for seven weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury back in early September against Basle.

After opting to go under the knife, Pogba has been working on his rehabilitation while United persist in his absence.

Pogba's omission from the United team has been telling, with results going against the Red Devils and criticisms levelled at Jose Mourinho for the way his teams are set up.

Speaking following United's midweek Champions League victory over Benfica at Old Trafford, Scholes insisted Pogba will be the man to make the Red Devils tick again once he is back and fully fit.

'I think if Pogba comes back he'll make a difference to the way they play,' Scholes said on BT Sport.

'He links the team together and I don't think they have a good enough No 10 at the moment and that doesn't help Lukaku either.

'Pogba will make a difference and be more positive. Lukaku is having to do a lot for himself but Pogba will make the difference.

They are missing a player to knit the team together,' the club legend added.

Pogba has recently been seen on social media videos along with team-mate Jesse Lingard looking in strong shape, though his expected return to the United team still remains unclear.

As recently as this week Mourinho went on record to say he has 'no idea' when Pogba will return, suggesting an air of anger regarding the amount of time the Frenchman has spent on the sidelines.

'Again, I have no idea. Honestly. I am not in control of his recovery process. He is not training with me. He is on individual work,' said Mourinho.

'For example, Marcos Rojo is working with me, with certain conditions, and I would expect him to be ready to play after the international break. I can predict that. But Paul, I have no idea,' he added.
