Arsene Wenger believes Jack Wilshere could be in line for a recall to the England squad
Wilshere, 25, has impressed for Arsenal in their Europa League and EFL Cup sides and, despite not playing in the Premier League this season, Wenger believes it is time for him to return to the national fold.
His last game for England was in the shock Euro 2016 defeat to Iceland.
‘I think he’s ready, personally,’ Wenger said. ‘He was not three weeks ago, he is today. I have the same problem, it’s competitive for me as well in every single competition he’s ready to play.
'I would encourage him to do it. I personally think a super-fit Jack I don’t know how you can keep him out of the England squad.’
Wenger has rotated his first team in cup competitions and in the league and is preparing to start Wilshere with Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday night, where a victory will secure progression.

‘I have another trio we play tomorrow night,’ Wenger said. ‘Walcott, Wilshere and Giroud. It’s very difficult to make a difference. I believe they all want competition, they all deserve competition because of their quality.
'If you look at the number of minutes played by all of these players since the start of the season many of them are in a very competitive shape which should be an advantage for us for the rest of the season.’
There is always an air of caution around Wilshere who has struggled with several major injuries that have held back his career. But Wenger insists that the player does not need any special treatment.
‘I manage him at the moment like every single player,’ the Frenchman said. ‘He’s completely treated like any other player for three weeks.’
