Champions League holders Real Madrid suffered one of their worst European defeats as Dele Alli scored twice in the 3-1 victory to put Tottenham into the last 16.
Sportsmail's Sam Cunningham rated the players at Wembley on Wednesday night.
Dele Alli scored twice against Real to show his credentials as one of the world’s leading players
TOTTENHAM (3-4-2-1)
Lloris 7.5
Saved tricky efforts from Casemiro, Ronaldo several times and Benzema. Assured presence.
Sanchez 7
Won the battle with Benzema on a testing occasion.
Alderweireld 6
The defender’s evening was cut short after 24 minutes when he limped off with a hamstring injury.
Alli scored twice in a 3-1 demolition of Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday
Vertonghen 7
Brilliant sliding tackle to block Ronaldo as he bore down on goal midway through the first half.
Trippier 8
Sensational first-time volleyed cross flashed in front of goal that Alli would surely have converted had he gambled. They scored from an almost identical move soon after.
Dier 7
Kept Modric and Kroos quiet, which says it all about how immensely effective his performance was.
Winks 7.5
Big night for the young midfielder. Stepped up, again. Superb ball to pick out Trippier who set up the opening goal.
Mauricio Pochettino's men threatened to humiliate their star-studded opponents at Wembley
Davies 6.5
Much of the game went down the opposite flank but Davies had a strong game.
Eriksen 7.5
Calm, composed finish for the third goal. Mis-controlled Kane’s chipped pass on 10 minutes and could’ve scored another. Kept Spurs ticking.
Alli 8.5
Scrappy finish for the opener but was cleverly positioned. Great run but huge deflection for the second. Sparked the third.
Kane 7.5
Bumped and banged Real’s defenders. Always a threat, as always. Set up the third.
Christian Eriksen, Harry Winks and Kieran Trippier impressed in a memorable victory
Star man
Alli: Two goals against Real Madrid proved his credentials as one of the world’s leading players.
Subs
Sissoko 6.5 (for Alderweireld 24), Dembele 6 (for Winks 66), Llorente (for Kane 79)
Not used: Vorm, Rose, Son, Llorente, Aurier.
Manager
Mauricio Pochettino 8.5
One of his greatest nights as Tottenham’s manager, got his tactics spot on and proved he can match-up against the best.
It was a frustrating night for Cristiano Ronaldo despite scoring late on from close range
REAL MADRID (4-3-3)
Casilla 5.5
Saved several times from Kane, Winks and Alli, although they were straightforward. Conceded three.
Hakimi 6
The 18-year-old right-back is one to watch: enjoys getting forward, good on the ball and can defend.
Nacho 5.5
A few vital interceptions to prevent Kane and Eriksen running through on goal, but lost Alli for the opening goal.
Real Madrid left back Marcelo lost out in his battle down the flank against Kieran Trippier
S Ramos 5.5
Tough evening facing Kane. Had a seemingly goal-bound second-half effort blocked by Ronaldo, his own team-mate.
Marcelo 5
Interesting match-up against Trippier down that flank. The Spurs man won.
Casemiro 6
Cheeky low shot was heading into the bottom right corner until Lloris saved.
Kroos 5.5
Some decent passing range from central midfield, without really unlocking Tottenham.
Modric 5.5
Vital tracking back early in the second half to cut out Kane’s low ball and stop Eriksen scoring.
Isco 5.5
Low shot in opening minutes saved easily. Great close control. Little telling impact.
Ronaldo 6.5
Could barely receive the ball without pulling off a trick or a step-over. Kept testing Lloris. Eventually beat him.
Benzema 5
First-time hooked shot from the edge of the box easily save. A quiet evening for the France striker.
Star man
Ronaldo: It wasn’t his best performance, but he was still Real Madrid’s standout performer.
Subs
Asensio 6 (for Benzema 74), Mayoral 6 (for Isco 74), Hernandez (for Modric 81)
Not used: M Ramos, Vallejo, Vazquez, Ceballos.
Manager
Zinedine Zidane 5
Got it wrong on a big night. His players did not know how to cope with Tottenham’s attacks.
