Tottenham recorded their first ever win over Real Madrid on Wednesday night as they took control of Group H in the Champions League.

A brace by Dele Alli and a Christian Eriksen strike made the score 3-0 before Cristiano Ronaldo got a consolation goal with 10 minutes to play.

The result confirmed Tottenham's passage to the last-16, and here Sportsmail takes a look at the nuggets of information you may have missed on a pulsating night at Wembley.

The goal that should not have been given

The goal that set Tottenham on their way. How the Spurs fans roared when Dele Alli beat Nacho to the ball at the far post to poke past Real Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

He timed his run to meet Kieran Trippier's cross from the right perfectly, but the right back was offside when Harry Winks played the ball wide.

Crucially, however, assistant referee Bahattin Duran kept his flag down.

You'll never guess where Dele Alli was five years ago?

It may have been a special night for Alli at Wembley on Wednesday. Two goals against Real Madrid is something he will remember for the rest of his life.

Another special night in his career came nearly five years ago to the day.

Alli made his debut for MK Dons on Friday, November 2 2012 against Cambridge City in the first round of the FA Cup. While that fixture finished in a 0-0 draw, he did score in the replay at Stadium MK as MK Dons won 6-1.

Ronaldo's favourite song

Ronaldo is lauded as the player for the big occasion and given his record it is difficult to argue.

What you might not have realised is just how much he really gets into character on Champions League nights.

He has developed somewhat of a habit of belting out the famous Champions League anthem when the two sides lined up.

Ronaldo in the wrong place at the wrong time

So often Ronaldo has been in the right place at the right time.

That wasn't the case on Wednesday night as Real Madrid tried to find a way back into the game at 2-0 down.

The ball came to captain Sergio Ramos just outside the six-yard area as Spurs tried to clear the danger. Ramos slammed the ball towards goal but Ronaldo, who couldn't get out of the way, stopped his team-mate's effort from nestling in the Spurs net.

Eriksen breaks Champions League hoodoo

Eriksen is known for his ability to pick a pass that splits the opposition defence.

It is something that has helped Spurs in their pursuit for Champions League football over the past few seasons.

He isn't known, however, for scoring goals in Europe's top competition. In fact, the last time he'd scored before Wednesday night in the Champions League was five years ago for Ajax against Manchester City.

Mousa's revenge

Dembele only came on with 25 minutes to play but he still managed to wind up Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

By full time both players had been booked. It all stemmed from an incident that happened with three minutes of normal time to play.

Ramos appeared to catch Dembele with an elbow before the Spurs midfielder caught him with his left hand. Moments later the Spurs midfielder followed through on Ramos having already tackled Toni Kroos. Dembele was rightfully shown a yellow card.

Ramos was booked seconds before the end when he sarcastically clapped referee Cekir.

Casemiro goes down after the slightest of shirt pulls

Casemiro didn't have the best of times against Tottenham on Wednesday night.

He was often bypassed in midfield and appeared lethargic throughout the Champions League fixture.

He was also made to look a little stupid when he went down far too easily after Harry Winks appeared to pull his shirt. It was how he went down that made it a little more embarrassing. One, two, three, four seconds he waited after the contact before falling to the ground.

Warming up for the Champions League draw?

For those of you that don't remember, Sir Rod Stewart had a great time when asked to help out during the draw for the fifth round of the Scottish Cup earlier this year.

Stewart was spotted at Wembley on Wednesday nigh as he took in Tottenham's excellent victory over Real Madrid.

Indeed, it's left some wondering whether he will be considered for the draw for the Champions League knockout stages in early December.
