Sadio Mane could be in line for a surprise recall to the squad for Saturday's trip to West Ham

Mane appears to be progressing well and is expected to return no sooner than December

The lethal winger was originally expected to be sidelined until December but the 25-year-old appears to be progressing well in his rehabilitation.

Mane joined the players with partial or no involvement in Liverpool's Champions League victory over Maribor on Wednesday night.

First team starters were afforded a break after the 3-0 win which saw the Reds maintain their spot on top of Group E, one point ahead of Sevilla.

The Reds were frustrated in the goalless first half against their Slovenian opponents but wore the visitors down.

Emre Can praised his side for the patience they demonstrated in the face of such a defensive set-up.

He told the Liverpool website: 'It was a game where we had to stay patient and I think we did it well.

'First half it was very, very difficult because Maribor did it very well, they stayed good and defended very deep [so] it was not easy, but I think we stayed patient enough in the second half and then I think the key was the first goal.

'I think we’ve improved [against defensive teams],' he added.
