Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was the signing of the summer, claims Jamie Carragher: 'He is on course to score 25 goals'

  • Mohamed Salah scored his 10th goal of the season in 3-0 win over Maribor
  • Liverpool paid Roma £34m for the Egyptian winger in the summer
  • He is on course to be the Reds' highest goalscorer since Luis Suarez left

With 10 goals in 16 games, Mohamed Salah's impact at Liverpool has been spectacular since his £34m move from Roma in June.

And club legend Jamie Carragher is convinced that no other summer signing in the Premier League has made more of an instant impression than the Egyptian.

Salah opened the scoring in the 3-0 Champions League win over Maribor in midweek and has quickly become a key part of Jurgen Klopp's starting lineup.

Despite playing wide on the right, the 25-year-old is the club's leading goalscorer so far this season and is set to join the company of Luis Suarez.

Since the Uruguayan's departure three years ago no Liverpool player has scored more than Philippe Coutinho's 14 last season, and Carragher believes the Egyptian could hit 25.

Writing in the Telegraph the former Liverpool defender said:  'When I saw Salah score his first for the club at Watford on the opening day, I felt this was a player who would score 15 this season. I underestimated. He is on schedule to get 25.

'The Egyptian is more than a traditional winger. He is a wide striker with the ability to get into goalscoring positions every time he plays.

'There has been plenty of criticism of Liverpool’s recruitment in recent years – much of it deserved. But just as with the signing of Sadio Mane in 2016, they have spent very well in bringing Salah back to England after his disappointing spell at Chelsea.

'As was the case with Mane, Salah already looks to be worth more than he cost.'
