Sometimes it is not the defeat itself that marks the end of an era; sometimes it is the manner of the defeat which is far more damaging than the score-line itself.

West Ham were abject against Liverpool at the London Stadium. By the end, a crowd of almost 60,000 had withered and thinned to around 15,000 hardy souls who saw it out to the bitter end to half-heartedly boo the team off. Most of those left by then were jubilant Liverpool fans.

It's yet another Hammer House of Horror show for West Ham

Thumped by three goals on home soil again, Liverpool in truth could quite easily have scored six or seven with more clinical finishing. You can read more fallout from the game on the homepage.

For the Reds they climb back above Burnley on goal difference but it leaves West Ham just one point outside the relegation zone heading into the international break.

That's all from me here though I will leave you with the top and bottom of the league table but remember to check back for more Premier League action with the top five all featuring. Cheerio.

FULL-TIME: West Ham United 1-4 Liverpool
Empty seats are seen inside the stadium as West Ham United collapsed to a heavy defeat
West Ham United's manager Slaven Bilic looks dejected as the Hammers slumped to defeat
19:20

90min: Even the discipline has gone now from West Ham has Lanzini has kicked the ball away after a stoppage in play to pick up a really pointless yellow card. The few loyal Hammers fans inside the ground only have three additional minutes to put up with.

19:18

89min: Empty seats everywhere at the London Stadium now. It's barely half-full with Solanke firing just wide as Liverpool continue to pile forward.

19:15
Double Liverpool substitution

87min: Jurgen Klopp makes a double change with the game won as Dominic Solanke and Dejan Lovren replace Firmino and Oxlade-Chamberlain.

19:15

86min: I know the contest is over but this is utterly embarrassing from West Ham. James Milner collects a squared pass in acres of space outside the box before dragging a low shot just wide of the post.

19:12

83min: Salah nearly has a hat-trick but his placed effort from the edge of the box towards the corner is well saved by Hart.

As you have probably gathered, West Ham have given up and Liverpool are still interested in adding to their tally.

Salah (right) celebrates scoring their fourth goal with team-mate Emre Can
19:10
From Sportsmail's Adam Shergold at the London Stadium

'Salah’s goal prompted a mass exodus of West Ham-supporting men, women and children alike. Thousands and thousands of empty seats have been left. ‘You’re going down with the blue s****’ sing the away fans. That’s Everton in case you were wondering...'

19:07
Liverpool substitution

77min: On comes Milner for Liverpool as he replaces Mane, many West Ham fans won't have seen that change - they are too busy streaming for the exits...

19:04
GOAL! West Ham United 1-4 LIVERPOOL

76min: Job done now for Liverpool, and it's handed to them on a plate by West Ham. Mane carves his way through the centre of the park before chipping a cross into the box for Mohamed Salah, who has an embarrassing riches of space, to control the ball before firing low across goal and into the bottom corner.

19:02

75min: West Ham have used all their changes but Liverpool are yet to make any. It won't stay like that for long though as James Milner is preparing to come on for the visitors.

Roberto Firmino (front) of Liverpool drives past Angelo Ogbonna of West Ham United
19:01
West Ham United substitution

72min: Last throw of the dice from Bilic as he throws on Diafra Sakho for Hernandez.

18:59

69min: Penalty for West Ham? I think it should be as Hernandez is clearly pushed jumping for a header that resulted in him nodding over the bar from an Arnautovic cross.

The referee though ignores the appeals from the Hammers striker. At the other end, Firmino rather wastefully drags low across goal with an effort that really should have ended this is a contest.

18:57

66min: Some respite as Andy Carroll needs treatment, as West Ham boss Slaven Bilic shares a dugout conversation with assistant Julian Dicks.

18:52

63min: Suddenly this game has really opened up. West Ham win a free-kick on the left, but Lanzini's near post delivery is headed over by Hernandez, who despite his relativity small height is often quite handy with his head. Michael Owen was always like that - especially for England.

Manuel Lanzini of West Ham United pounced to halve the deficit against Liverpool
Lanzini (centre) celebrates scoring his side's first goal near the start of the second half
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain of Liverpool celebrates after restoring his side's lead 55 seconds later
18:50
West Ham United substitution

61min: Noble appears to have picked up a knock on his knee as he receives treatment on the bench, with Marko Arnautovic replacing the Hammers skipper.

18:49

59min: Goodness me, it should be 3-2! Lanzini is again found at the back post but this time the midfielder fires over when h really should be hitting the target.

18:44
GOAL! West Ham United 1-3 LIVERPOOL

56min: But 55 seconds later, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain collects a Roberto Firmino pass inside the box and despite seeing his initial shot saved by Joe Hart he fires the rebound into the roof of the net. West Ham have shot themselves in the foot!

18:44
GOAL! WEST HAM UNITED 1-2 Liverpool

55min: Hope for West Ham as Manuel Lanzini collects a far post cross from Ayew by easily peeling off Gomez and hitting a neat finish across goal past Simon Mignolet.

18:43

53min: It's been a real scrappy start to this second half. West Ham are still trying to take the game to Liverpool but not too much from the Hammers so far.

18:40

50min: A little better from West Ham at the start of this period but going by how the first half ended they really couldn't have been much worse.

Some early territory from the Hammers but little else.

18:36

47min: Another West Ham corner leads to a Liverpool counter attack, but this time there is a Claret shirt on hand to take one for the team and bring down Mane as Winston Reid is booked.

18:35

18:29
And Steven Gerrard's assessment of West Ham in the first half?

'Awful. They've been passive, there is no passion, no heart, no desire, no communication, no responsibility.' Gerrard told BT Sport.'There's only been one team that wants to win this football match.'

Former Hammers midfielder Frank Lampard also claimed the home side have been 'scared' while acknowledging the gap in class between the sides.

18:23
From Sportsmail's Adam Shergold at the London Stadium

'I can see a familiar pattern emerging here for West Ham. Or maybe it would be better termed a vicious circle.

'When playing top quality teams, they start well and defend resolutely, then they commit some defensive mistake to concede. Then they concede again soon afterwards. Suddenly, all the confidence has drained from them, passes are misplaced and the crowd starts getting on their backs.

'It happened earlier this season when Tottenham scored twice in the space of four minutes after half-an-hour when West Ham had held their own. And last season in the 4-0 loss to Manchester City when they conceded twice in four minutes as well.

'A long way back from here for the Hammers and jeers greet the half-time whistle.'

Joel Matip of Liverpool appeared to trip West Ham United's Javier Hernandez in the first half

HALF-TIME: West Ham United 0-2 Liverpool

West Ham United are roundly booed off the pitch. A huge half-time team talk coming up for Slaven Bilic.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic gestures on the touchline as Jurgen Klopp looks on
18:17

45+2min: Two minutes of added time at the London Stadium and there is a huge boo from the home support as Mark Noble plays a back pass to Joe Hart. A bigger boo is set to follow in a minute or two...

18:15

43min: Two minutes before the break and I'm quite sure if Liverpool were offered the chance to skip the 15-minute break and play on they would take it. West Ham are all over the place as the Reds continue to look for a third goal.

18:12

40min: Neither keeper has been tested since Liverpool's three-minute double salvo but my word Liverpool look comfortable as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain sees a shot blocked after Salah somehow split two pressing West Ham players with a through pass. Awful defending.

18:10

37min: Desperate times for West Ham as Mark Noble is booked for a shameful dive following a Joe Gomez challenge. Half-time cannot come soon enough for Slaven Bilic and his side. They really need a regroup.

Joel Matip of Liverpool scores his side's second goal following a corner kick for the Reds

West Ham United keeper Joe Hart reacts with fury after his side fall 2-0 behind
18:07

34min: Just over ten minutes before the break and already the likes of Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll are warming up. The Hammers look no closer to forcing Mignolet into action.

18:06

31min: The positivity isn't spreading around the London Stadium. Instead it's utter frustration from West Ham supporters as the jeers now start to follow misplaced passes from the home side.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah scores his side's opening goal past West Ham keeper Joe Hart
Salah celebrates his goal alongside Sadio mane (left) and other Liverpool team-mates
18:02

28min: This looks bad for West Ham, yet they haven't been that bad. They have responded... well...ok since going 2-0 down.

The problem is the gameplan to sit back and counter attack already looks redundant with Liverpool now having next to no urgency to grab a goal now. But dare press high and give Mane space to run into?

18:00
From Sportsmail's Adam Shergold at the London Stadium

'I was about to write just how well West Ham had held out in these opening stages and then they go and concede a goal like that.

'Slaven Bilic will be wondering exactly how Liverpool can go from defending a corner in their own penalty area to scoring in the space of about 10 seconds.

'Aaron Cresswell was left to defend alone against Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah and it was embarrassing how the Hammers were carved open there.

'All their good early work undone in a flash.'

17:54
GOAL! West Ham United 0-2 LIVERPOOL

24min: Five minutes ago this game had nothing, but in the time it takes to go make a 'cuppa' while you wait for something to get going, Liverpool race into a 2-0 lead!

From a corner, Joe Hart saves well from a Mark Noble deflection that was heading for an own goal, only for Joel Matip to tap in the rebound.

17:52
GOAL! West Ham United 0-1 LIVERPOOL

21min: Slaven Bilic will be absolutely furious. West Ham win a corner and it leads to a Liverpool goal!

The Reds clear a cross and break through Mane, who upon reaching the other side of the pitch squares for Mohamed Salah to convert low under a helpless Hart. A brutal counter attack as Liverpool catch the Hammers napping.

17:50

18min: Both teams may have had a sight of goal inside the first ten minutes but as a spectacle this game really hasn't got going. It's being played at an incredibly slow pace.

West Ham, perhaps wary of Sadio Mane's pace, are sitting deep and allowing Liverpool to pass the ball around in the midfield.

17:47

15min: Hernandez did require treatment following that foul, where he did look like he went down a little too easily which may have influenced Swarbrick's decision to not give him a free-kick. Anyway, the Mexican is back to his feet as play continues.

West Ham's Andre Ayew misses a chance as Liverpool's Simon Mignolet attempts to save
Ayew reacts having hit the post for the Hammers in the early stages
17:46

12min: That looked very clumsy from Joel Matip, who clearly trips Javier Hernandez 23-yards out only for referee Neil Swarbrick to wave play on.

The home fans react with boss while Slaven Bilic has gone chasing down the touchline for the fourth official in fury over the lack of a free-kick being awarded.

17:41

9min: Off the post! Manuel Lanzini's through ball takes a deflection before landing kindly for Andre Ayew inside the box, but as Simon Mignolet rushes out the West Ham striker can only hit the near post with a lofted effort before the ball bounces out for a goal kick. Probably should score there.

The London Stadium pays its respects ahead of Remembrance Day next weekend
West Ham United supporters unveiled a mosaic showing a poppy to mark a minute silence
17:38

6min: Aside from that half-chance for Firmino the brightest thing so far from the London Stadium is Liverpool's luminous orange away kit.

Of a list of possible excuses Liverpool could prepare should they ensure a torrid evening, 'not being able to find a team-mate' should not be among them.

Roberto Firmino of Liverpool is denied an early goal by West Ham United keeper Joe Hart
17:34

3min: Already Joe Hart is called into action, closing down Roberto Firmino from a very acute angle to block a goalbound shot before West Ham counter, only for Aaron Cresswell to poorly cross behind for a goal kick.

17:31

Could it be one of those evenings for West Ham United?

Last time they hosted a match inside the London Stadium they were thumped 3-0 by Brighton and the early signs in the warm up are not encouraging.

Joe Hart has just made an absolute howler to allow the ball to trickle into the goal. To put a positive spin on it, if there is a time for the Hammers stopper to drop a clanger - then this is most certainly it.

Liverpool players are warming up at the London Stadium

From Sportsmail's Adam Shergold at the London Stadium:

'Clubs up and down the country are marking Remembrance Sunday at the moment and things will be no different here at the London Stadium this evening.

'There was a vintage WW2 spitfire on display outside the ground and before the game we’re going to have a performance by the Royal Air Force Cadets band.

'A guard of honour from members of the Royal British Legion and servicemen from the G Company 7 Rifles West Ham Army Reserve Centre will greet the teams when they walk out.'

We will also have the traditional wreath-laying ceremony, the Last Post and a two minutes’ silence ahead of kick-off. And fans in the East Stand will hold up cards to form a poppy mosaic during the silence.

West Ham captain Mark Noble went to visit the 7 Rifles centre earlier this week, as has just been shown on the big screen here.

Some pre-match reading regarding Mohamed Salah...

JAMES DUTTON: With 10 goals in 16 games, Mohamed Salah's impact at Liverpool has been spectacular since his £34m move from Roma in June.

And club legend Jamie Carragher is convinced that no other summer signing in the Premier League has made more of an instant impression than the Egyptian.

Salah opened the scoring in the 3-0 Champions League win over Maribor in midweek and has quickly become a key part of Jurgen Klopp's starting lineup.
