Manchester City hitman Sergio Aguero will don gold boots for his side's clash with Arsenal to commemorate the Argentine breaking the club's goalscoring record.

Aguero hit his landmark 178th goal the Stadio San Paolo to break Eric Brook’s 78-year-old record and help City into the last 16 of the Champions League with a 4-2 win over Napoli.

The Argentina international has been handed the Puma One gold boot to wear as City host the Gunners in a mouthwatering Premier League encounter.

Following Aguero's goal in Naples, the Argentine promised to give his No 10 shirt from the game to his eight-year-old son Benjamin, and publicly thanked his team-mates for helping him break the record on what was his 264th appearance for City.

‘I am very happy for this moment,’ he said. ‘But I must keep going the same way because the season is long. Now I am very happy because we won and qualified for the last 16.

‘I was just thinking to win. That was in my mind. I am very happy for my team-mates because they helped me every game and the supporters, and it is tough (for them), and my family in Argentina and my friends.

‘It is just in my mind every game to play 100 per cent. When I don't score it is fine because the important thing is to win. When I score it is better but the important thing is to win every game. I think now we are good.’

Manager Pep Guardiola will need his marksman at 100 per cent when he welcomes Arsene Wenger's men to the Etihad Stadium.

City sit five points above rivals Manchester United — who have their own difficult task in facing Chelsea on Sunday — and will hope to maintain the cushion.
