Sergio Aguero's bootiful day as Manchester City striker goes blue, gold then black in win over Arsenal - SEVEN THINGS YOU MISSED

  • Manchester City beat Arsenal 3-1 to go eight points clear in the Premier League
  • Sergio Aguero scored City's second goal after changing his boots at half time
  • The City ace was presented with a light blue boot and a gold pair before kick-off
  • He wore gold in the first half, but went with his trusted black books at the interval
  • Aguero scored after Arsenal conceded their 12 penalty kick since August 2016
  • No side has conceded as many PL pens as the Gunners in the past two seasons
  • City have now scored 52 goals in all competitions — a PL record after 17 matches

Manchester City recorded their ninth straight victory in the Premier League, this time dispatching of Arsenal with ease at the Etihad in a 3-1 win.

Kevin De Bruyne fired home a low drilled effort before Sergio Aguero doubled their advantage from the penalty spot in the second half. Substitute Alexandre Lacazette pulled one back for the Gunners, but Gabriel Jesus made sure of the points with a simple tap-in.

Victory leaves City eight points clear at the top, while Arsenal sit in sixth, already 12 points behind the League's pace-setters.

Here, Sportsmail brings you a round-up of some of the things you may have missed from the clash at the Etihad.

Sergio Aguero sees blue, gold and black

Man City paid homage to their leading goalscorer and he responded with yet another strike for the club.

The Argentine was presented with a special award prior to kick-off to mark his 178th and record-breaking strike against Napoli in midweek. Erik Brook's granddaughter and club legend Mike Summerbee presented the striker with aptly-coloured light blue boot award.

Aguero's sponsors helped him mark the occasion too, by providing a special edition Puma One gold boot, which he wore in the first-half, before reverting back to his familiar black ones for the last 45.

Within minutes of returning to his old boots, Aguero doubled his side's lead from the penalty spot with his 179th City goal and first at the Etihad since becoming the club's record goalscorer.

Man City become first to reach the 50 club

De Bruyne's strike was Man City's 50th in all competitions this season, 10 more than any other Premier League side. Guardiola's attacking juggernaut have scored 38 in the League, 12 in the Champions League and twice in the League Cup. Two more strikes after De Bruyne's takes their overall goal tally to 52.

Fifty-two goals in all competitions is the most any top-flight side has managed in their opening 17 games since 1992-93 - another Premier League record broken by Guardiola's free-scoring side.

To further prove their dominance, City have four players who have already scored at least eight goals this season; Leroy Sane (8 goals, 5 assists), Jesus (9 goals, 1 assist), Aguero (10 goals, 3 assists) and Raheem Sterling (10 goals, 2 assists). That's 38 goals between four players and we've just entered November. Imagine what those numbers might look like in May…

Noel Gallagher watches his favourite club

Lifelong Man City fan Noel Gallagher was spotted at the Etihad watching his side record yet another impressive victory.

The former Oasis member was seen with The Smith's guitarist Johnny Marr, as Guardiola's side recorded their ninth straight Premier League victory to seriously dent Arsenal's scant title hopes.

World Cup winner familiarises himself with what's to come

Golden Boy winner Phil Foden can expect to take part in many more afternoons like this; big games at the Etihad against the Premier League's top sides.

This afternoon however, he had to settle for a spectator's role while clutching the U17 World Cup trophy.

Foden, who is highly-rated by Guardiola and regularly trains with his senior side, may become a first-team regular sooner rather than later.

Guardiola shows his support for Catalan prisoners

Proud Catalonian Guardiola expressed support for imprisoned Catalan politicians during the clash with the Gunners.

The Barcelona legend was vocal in his support of eight imprisoned politicians earlier this week, who were accused of rebellion, sedition and misuse of public funds.

Speaking on the matter, Guardiola said: 'The two persons leading the Catalan organisations were put in prison for asking to vote in a legal referendum.

'They were fulfilling the wish of the people. Now they are suffering and their families are suffering. It's a bit scary, because it seems as if we are going backwards in a democratic state'.

Arsenal's woeful penalty record

Since the start of last season, no side has conceded as many penalties as Arsenal's 12. Of active Premier League sides, that's three more than their nearest rivals West Ham (9) and double the amount of third-placed Southampton (6).

What that shows is that Arsenal are quite clearly the League's clumsiest sides in the box, with Nacho Monreal, Petr Cech and Granit Xhaka conceding two penalties each.

To make matters worse, none of those 12 penalties have been saved, as Aguero's strike means Cech is without a penalty save in the Premier League since February 2011, when he stopped a last-gasp spot-kick from Fulham's Clint Dempsey to rescue a point for Chelsea.

Aguero assists... the referee

As he left the pitch to be replaced by substitute Jesus on 62 minutes, Aguero was asked by referee Michael Oliver to carry his battery pack off the field.

He kindly agreed to assist the official, who was later heavily criticised by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for his overall performance.

Wenger fumed after the match: 'Overall, once again, the referee made the decision with a penalty and an offside goal.

'We are used to it when we come here. I feel they don't work enough, because it happens every season. It is unacceptable.'
