Manchester City Women strengthen with signing of Sweden's Julia Spetsmark and extension of Nikita Parris's contract

Manchester City have continued to strengthen their women's squad by signing Sweden's Julia Spetsmark and extending Nikita Parris's current contract.

Spetsmark will join from Swedish outfit KIF Orebro DFF in January, marking her first forway into football outside of her own country.

The attacking midfielder is relishing the opportunity to help the team as they attempt to retain their three domestic titles and make a push for the UEFA Women's Champions League trophy.

'I've always wanted to play in England and I'm so happy to have the chance to do that now,' The Swede said. 'Manchester City is a big club and the calibre of the training facilities and coaching staff at the City Football Academy are really going to improve my game and technique.


'I'm an offensive player and I can't wait to join this club and help them score goals and win trophies.'

Head coach Nick Cushing was delighted with the signing, saying: 'Julia is exactly the kind of player we're looking for. This season our aim is to score more goals and entertain the fans every time we step on the pitch. Julia has the talent, the passion and the drive to help us do that.

The current FA Women’s Super League champions also tied England winger Nikita Parris down to a new deal until the end of the 2018-19 season.  

The 23-year-old has become a key member of the team since joining from Everton in 2015, scoring 25 goals in 65 appearances. 

'It feels amazing to have signed a new contract, it was never in doubt,' Parris said. 'I have a fighting desire and enthusiasm to play for and win trophies with this team. We have a lot of quality and a lot left to give.'
