Didier Deschamps has poured fuel on speculation Jose Mourinho could leave Manchester United to manage Paris Saint-Germain by branding the Portuguese a 'globetrotter'.

The France manager thinks Mourinho would be attracted to the prospect crossing the Channel to take charge of a club in a new country, having previously led Porto, Inter, and Real Madrid.

Mourinho has been linked with a move to PSG next summer after speaking warmly of the club and the French capital, with reports emerging that his agents have held discussions already.

And Deschamps would not be surprised to see Mourinho replace Unai Emery.

'Jose Mourinho, why not?' said the former Juventus midfielder. 'He's pretty happy at Manchester United at the moment. But he's a bit of a globetrotter. So why not in France too? He has not been to France yet.

'PSG are the most stand-out team in France. They are doing well nationally and in the Champions League.'

Mourinho, 54, fanned the flames on a switch to the Qatar-funded club in October by insisting he would not end his career at Old Trafford.

'The only thing I can say is I'm still a coach with worries, with ambitions, and with the desire to do new things. I'm sure that I won't end my career here.

'The other day, my son who lives in London went to Paris to watch a PSG match instead of Manchester because at the moment in Paris there is something special. Magic, quality, youth, it's fantastic.'

There are as yet no indications Mourinho will agree an extension to the three-year contract he signed when joining United in 2016.
