Atletico Madrid are keen to take Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil back to Spain when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Ozil has yet to sign a new deal with the Gunners and looks set to be sold for free next summer after a four-year stay in England.

Atletico have reportedly contacted the former Real Madrid star with a view to luring him to the Wanda Metropolitano.

According to The Sun, Diego Simeone will look to beat the likes of Manchester United to his signature by offering the German a big signing-on fee and a contract worth around £200,000 a week.

They also report that Ozil, who has won scored one goal and picked up two assists for the Gunners this season, has asked the Gunners for a £330,000-a-week deal.

But with no elite clubs reportedly willing to dig that deep, the playmaker may be forced to revise his demands.

Ozil spent three years at Real Madrid before joining Arsenal in the summer of 2013. And as reported by Sportsmail last month, the German is keen to join Manchester United.

If he were to secure a move to Old Trafford Ozil would be reunited with Jose Mourinho, the man he played under at the Bernabeu.

Though the pair didn't always see eye-to-eye during his spell in Spain, Mourinho considers the German among the best creative talents in world football.
