Brighton's talented attacking midfielder Pascal Gross has been spilling the beans about his love of life in England - apart from his dislike of a much-loved go-to-breakfast grub.

Gross, who signed for Chris Hughton's newly-promoted south coast Premier League outfit for £3 million in the summer, has been talking about his utter disgust of our humble baked-bean.

While the creative 26-year-old is no 'has-bean' he is grossed out by our choice breakfast staple.

The Daily Mirror reported him saying: 'I don't like baked beans you have for breakfast. I’ve already told people I’ll never eat them. I can’t. It’s the way they smell and look.I can’t even try them.

'Baked beans were the first things I saw when I arrived at the training ground. I took a photo of them and sent it to my friends in Germany and one sent a message back saying, ‘No chance’.

'Other stuff we get is really good – sometimes the chef puts Wiener Schnitzel on the menu at the training ground.'

Apart from that Gross loves living in England. He has settled in well on and off the pitch. He enjoys living in a seafront house and has been hailed by fans for his performances.

With Heinz-sight his good start should not have been a surprise as, despite Ingolstadt's relegation from the Bundesliga last term, he created more chances than any other player in the German top-flight, while notching four goals.

So while Beanz meanz gross according to Pascal his is full of respect for his new club and manager Hughton.

Canny Hughton, a former Republic of Ireland right-back, invited Gross as a guest before they played Wigan Athletic last season - in a match which saw the Seagulls promoted.

Gross even had to digest a video Hughton sent him on the club's fall and rise since the Goldstone Ground disappeared more than two decades ago.

Speaking before Stoke City visit the club's stunning stadium in Falmer on the fringes of the beautiful South Downs Gross praised his boss. He said: 'We have a strict plan. 'Everyone knows what to do. That’s the important thing.

'The gaffer has his way of working. Every player understands and stays behind that plan and know that if we all do our jobs it will succeed. That way, we play with self-confidence. Every game is different and he has a different match plan for every game.'

Could further impressive displays as his team look to consolidate in the top tier this term mean he could yet make Germany's 2018 World Cup squad in Russia next summer?

He replied emphatically: 'No. It’s too late for me. We have many good young players who have a big standing in the national team. Mesut Ozil has shown his quality over the years. He’s a big player. Some people aren’t convinced about him but he shows it every year – and for me he can always make a difference in every game.

'The only thing why he is criticised is his body language. But we don’t have to talk about him as a footballer – that ability is there for everyone to see.'
