Huddersfield Town vs Manchester City, RESULT: Pep Guardiola's side reclaim eight point lead in the Premier League as Raheem Sterling dazzles

Just what Pep ordered. City have ensured to keep a healthy distance between themselves and local rivals Manchester United.

Here's how the Premier League table is looking...

A little incident at the end following the full-time whistle to tell you about, Van La Parra has been sent off.

As Sterling was holding up the ball in the corner and running down the clock, Van La Parra and Sane clashed as the German tried to shield him away.

Shoves were exchanged before Van La Parra put his hands to Sane's face. The ref wasn't having it, dismissing him after the whistle.

And that's that as the referee's whistle blows.

Raheem Sterling the hero, winning the penalty in the opening minute of the second half, before later getting a stroke of luck and seeing a rebound hit him for the winner.

94mins: Sterling holds the ball up in the corner and is bundled over. Standard free-kick.

93mins: Ederson loafs the ball long. City win a free-kick and look to have one final press at the Huddersfield goal. 

Looks like they'll see this win over the line.

Silva off and Mangala on as Pep brings in some height and defensive steel.

87mins: It ripples the side netting and Ederson was beaten. So close to immediately restoring the balance by Mooy.

86mins: Late free-kick for the home side as David Silva gets booked.

It's on the edge, shooting distance. Mooy wants it.

Mounie on for Mogg - Huddersfield

Aguero off for Gundogan - City

83mins: Sterling works his way into the box with a one-two. Aguero gets a shot on goal, the rebound off Lossl pings straight at Sterling and nestles in the back of the net.

Not pretty, but a big, big goal.

83mins: Less than convincing from City but they eventually clear and press up to the other end for a late attack.

81mins: And straight into the action from Quaner. He battles Delph out wide and wins a corner.

Ince off, Quaner on.

80mins: Silva looks for Sane with a cutting ball through the defence. It has too much pace and doesnt't match the German's run.

Goal kick.

79mins: Pep brings on the firepower as Kompany departs and Gabriel Jesus comes on.

75mins: Depoitre goes on a solo run but soon meets a dead end.

Huddersfield wary of sending reinforcements forward, Kompany tackles and clears.

74mins: Malone's evening here is over as he's replaced by German full back Chris Lowe.

72mins: Sane's got his dancing shoes on again.

He's tying the Huddersfield defence in knots, but they crowd him out.

The ball falls to Silva but he can't set up a give and go. Huddersfield clear and City recycle possession.

69mins: Huddersfield are still going for it here, despite City's pressure. They certainly aren't rolling over.

More shirts in blue and white stripes are getting behind the ball now, but City are struggling to unpick the back line.

Silva is found but his cross goes straight to Lossl.

64min: Scott Malone also into the book now for a block on De Bruyne.

62min: Fernandinho is booked here for diving. Deservedly so. Van La Parra clears the ball away on the edge but the midfielder decides to fall over thin air.

Shameful.

57mins: Sane takes and his effort rattles the cross bar.

Lossl was well and truly beaten, it was a stunning hit. Huddersfield fortunate.

Jonathan Hogg the first man into the ref's book, after a lunge on Silva. 

City now have a freekick on the edge.

54mins: Build up on the edge sees Silva spy an opening and consider a shot from distance. 

It's a poor call. He doesn't get over it and row Z is soon picked out as jeers from Huddersfield fans ring around.

51mins: City still banging on the door, they want the lead and Aguero almost found it. 

He's slipped in on the six-yard box and toe pokes it forward.

It's saved and behind for a corner, which the hosts clear.

He slots it home and we're all square. Less than two minutes have been played this half and already City are back in it.

Twice in the matter of minutes Sterling has appealed. Second time, it is given.

Scott Malone brought down the winger and the ref pointed straight to the spot.

Moments earlier a lofted ball over the top saw Sterling tackled by 'keeper Lossl. He claimed for that one initially, but was unsuccessful.

Misery for Manchester City, who concede with the last kick of the first half despite dominating.

And it was the final act of the half. Incredible end, completely against the run of play.

Guardiola looks livid as the players trudge towards the tunnel.

Wow, how about that.

The second corner comes in and a darting near post run from Schindler causes confusion.

It hits Otamendi and it's in. The hosts take the lead!

44mins: Huddersfield showing they are very much a threat.

City are sleeping and the Terriers burst forward with Ince. His cross is put behind for a corner as one added minute is announced.

It's whipped in and Kompany head it behind for another.

42mins: Sterling times his run down the right and finds Fernandino on the penalty spot.

He has time to bring it under control with a touch, but sends his effort wide.

Poor attempt, all things considered.

Given their volume of chances City are being wasteful, and Guardiola knows it.

39mins: Free-kick Huddersfield as Sane is judged to have caught his marker with a flailing arm. 

Huddersfield punt the ball in and it's a golden opportunity.

Jorgensen is on the end of it but cannot flick it on target.

That certainly would have been against the run of play.

37mins: A save from Aguero's shot falls to Sterling who panics and snatches an effort wide.

It's attack upon attack now and surely a goal is coming.

Huddersfield will count themselves lucky if they can hold on until half-time.

36mins: Otamendi is teed up by Aguero but he smashes an effort over the bar from the edge of the area.

That just about sums up City's attacking status right now... the centre-half is playing one-twos with the main striker.

35mins: Sane and Silva link up again, but it's met by the offside flag.

The Spaniard is looking for Sane at every opportunity, with his darting runs down the wing.

Huddersfield can't contain him. 

33mins: The ball is cleared three times by Huddersfield but each time it returns. 

City work their way back into the area once again. Silva plays a lovely one-two with De Bruyne and the ball falls to Aguero.

He's tackled and his effort is sent over. Big chance.

32mins: Pep is cutting a frustrated figure on the touchline. 

He's as animated as ever and gesturing to his players. City still in the driving seat, however, as a corner is won.

29mins: Sane races away down the City left once again.

No-one can get near him as he slips the ball into De Bruyne.

It's a rare mistake from the Belgian as his first touch is awful and all but kills the move.

Huddersfield clear and, at the other end, Kompany has to save the day with a last minute tackle.

28mins: Huddersfield coming forward whenever the opportunity is there.

They certainly don't fear their opponents, though are clearly wary of the damage they can inflict.

23mins: City keep the pressure on and De Bruyne tries to dink it over the defence to Silva.

It's headed out, only as far as Aguero on the edge. He volleys goalwards, hitting the ground first.

It goes behind, danger averted. For now...

22mins: Quick give and go between Sane and Silva sees the German out on the byline, by the Huddersfield post.

He fizzes an effort across. It needs one touch and it's going in. But no-one can meet it.

18mins: Free-kick in the middle of the park as Delph and Ince collide.

The Huddersfield man goes down and the ref is straight on it.

A little break up in play for the Terriers at the same time. Much needed.

An early warning for the hosts as Aguero puts it into the back of the net... but it's offside.

14mins: Huddersfield already all backs to the wall. 

Tom Ince mucks in with defensive duties to quell a City attack. The ball goes out but City come again, and again.

It'll be a long 90 minutes for the Terriers at this rate.

12mins: City free-kick on the right flank as Sterling is clattered by Van La Parra.

The ball is pinged into the area and Aguero puts it in the bottom corner... but it's offside.

9mins: City playing the ball around for fun, waiting to spy an opportunity.

Sane in the far corner is often the target, with Silva providing an outlet for him.

Otamendi loses patience and tries a long-ball, it's over-hit and goes behind.

5mins: De Bruyne looks to pick out Sane with a cross-field pass. 

Seems his aim was off, but it's a corner. Sane whips it in and it drops, but a City shirt can't get onto the end of it. 

A second corner is fired in by De Bruyne and Kompany heads narrowly wide.

3mins: Huddersfield's plan fairly clear already, they're sitting off City and allowing them to play at the back.

Their ranks are so tight once the ball comes into their half, they'll be well versed with the speed and incision of City. 

One counter-attack could kill them off. Getting anything here is a big ask for Wagner's men.

And we're under way in Huddersfield. The fans are up for this and the noise is deafening.

The teams are out on the pitch and action is moments away.

A win here for City will send them off into the distance, this is a big one for Guardiola's men.

JOE BERNSTEIN: Almost a year ago, Manchester City suffered a 4-2 defeat at Leicester that led to misgivings about manager Pep Guardiola's suitability for the Premier League. And even he remarked: ‘I’m not a coach for the tackles.’

He need not have worried. Guardiola takes his City slickers to Huddersfield on Sunday threatening to rewrite the record books. They have won every away game this season and the last 10 in the Premier League. Their overall unbeaten run stretches back 25 matches to last April.

While Sergio Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane have been getting all the plaudits — scoring at more than three goals a game and on course to break the league record of 103 — Guardiola’s most important work has been at the other end.
