Manchester City seem unstoppable and the stats back it up: 11 successive away wins, the best start in history and 42 goals... Pep Guardiola's side are running away with it

  • Manchester City have made blistering start to campaign and remain unbeaten
  • Pep Guardiola's side are sweeping all before them and the stats back it up
  • City average more than three goals a game in Premier League after 13 matches
  • Victory against Huddersfield was record eleventh successive away win

Manchester City have been breathtaking this season and Pep Guardiola's side are dominating on all fronts.

But it isn't just the win column that demonstrates just how brilliant City have been and a number of stats illustrate their superiority.

The 2-1 victory over Huddersfield on Sunday might not have been the prettiest but it was the 11th successive away win in all competitions, a new record.

Domestically, this is the best start to a campaign ever in the Premier League and only Liverpool's 37-point tally in 1990-91 can match the express pace.

In terms of the away record, it could be a case of unlucky number 13 if City overcome Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine.

They face a trip to Old Trafford where Manchester United would dearly love to halt their march.

That would be easier said than done as City's remarkable firepower has seen them breeze past their rivals.

In the Premier League, Guardiola's side average 3.2 goals per game and have netted 42 times in 13 games.

Raheem Sterling is leading the charge with 12 goals, Sergio Aguero is on 11 and Gabriel Jesus 10, showing the burden is shared among players in Guardiola's fluid style rather than placing a burden on one striker.

The Spanish manager was famed for his 'tiki-taka' approach at Barcelona which he dismisses as an inaccurate summation and passing without purpose.

At City, every attack is meaningful and possession is not simply retained for the sake of it.

That said, Guardiola's men boast such mastery of the ball that in the Huddersfield game alone, they completed 10 times the number of passes compared to the Terriers during the second half.

Earlier in the season a total of 844 passes against West Brom set a new record since Opta began collecting statistics.

The footballing genius on display will continue to shatter records at the current pace but Guardiola and City's stars will no doubt measure their success by silverware, not statistics.
