  • Both Manchester clubs are watching Clement Lenglet ahead of January window
  • Sevilla's Lenglet is able to play at centre back as well as on the left
  • Arsenal, Liverpool and Barcelona have enquired about star with a £28m buyout

Manchester City and Manchester United have checked on Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet.

The 22-year-old Frenchman is regarded as one of the unsung talents of Sevilla's team having only joined last January from Nancy.

A France Under-21 international, he is strong, composed on the ball and has pace. Naturally left-sided, he plays at centre back but can also play left back and reads the game well.

City have been looking for a defender who could possibly cover two positions. They like Real Sociedad's Inigo Martinez, Mouctar Diakhaby at Lyon and Jose Gimenez at Atletico Madrid, and Lenglet falls into a category with those players.

His composure also fits the profile City require.

United though have watched Lenglet too as they look to strengthen options at full back and centre back.

Arsenal and Liverpool, who saw the 6ft 2in defender in close proximity during their Champions League exchanges, have also asked about a player that cost Sevilla just £4.4million.

His contract runs until 2021 and his buyout fee is set at £28m.

Barcelona are also understood to have made enquiries as they consider options for the centre back position.
