Carlos Tevez allowed to decide his own Shanghai Shenhua fate despite failing to impress on £650,000-a-week deal

  • Carlos Tevez has only scored four goals in 16 Shanghai Shenhua appearances
  • The 33-year-old is on a mega £650,000-a-week contract in China
  • Shanghai Shenhua are happy to leave Tevez's future in his own hands

Carlos Tevez has been allowed to make the final call on his Shanghai Shenhua future, despite failing to impress in China while being paid a whopping £650,000-a-week.

The former Manchester United and Manchester City striker moved to Shanghai in December but has only scored four times in 16 games in the Chinese Super League.

His form has been so bad that Shenhua left him out of the squad for their two-legged Chinese Cup final victory over Shanghai SIPG.

But despite being on the fringes of the squad, the 33-year-old Tevez can remain in China.

'Tevez will decide whether to stay or leave. His future hinges on the decision made by himself instead of Shenhua Football Club,' Shenhua said during a news briefing.

'Tevez's attitude, of which Shenhua have no control, will have a direct bearing on his performance. In other words, even if Shenhua really want to keep him at the club and see him play well, Tevez still has the final say.'

Shenhua admitted that they have had offers for Tevez but cannot force him to go anywhere.

'It is true that we have received bids from other clubs to buy Tevez, but Shenhua hope he express his true feelings first. Otherwise all efforts will go in vain.

'Shenhua have no chance of selling Tevez to a club where he doesn't want to join.'
