Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United - SEVEN THINGS YOU MISSED: Olympic hero Mo Farah watches on as the Antonio Valencia charm works again

  • Manchester United held on to pull off a crucial victory over Arsenal
  • Paul Pogba was sent off but Jose Mourinho's side dug in for a 3-1 away win
  • Huge Gunners fan and Olympic hero Mo Farah was in attendance
  • The Antonio Valencia good-luck charm continues for the Red Devils
  • United have now hit the 50 goal milestone, much quicker than previous years

Manchester United left north London with all three points in the bag on Saturday, despite playing out a frenetic contest at the Emirates with 10 men.

The Red Devils made a blistering start to the tie, getting themselves in front within 10 minutes courtesy of Antonio Valencia, before Jesse Lingard continued his personal goalscoring run and doubled the lead sooner after.

The England international added his second following a comeback strike from Alexandre Lacazette, before Paul Pogba saw red for an ugly challenge on Hector Bellerin.

While all eyes were trained on every kick of the football, Sportsmail kept a broader look about the Emirates to pick out some of the things you may have missed.

Steady on now

United were in such a rush to dive head first into the contest that they went too quickly even for the referee's liking.

Jose Mourinho's men started the game in a blur, resulting in ref Andre Marriner to pull back play and get Arsenal to take kick-off again.

Undeterred by the halting of their eager nature, United soon kicked on and had the ball in the back of the net within ten minutes. Now that's efficient.

A three year wait, then two come along at once

The Red Devils had failed to breach the back of the Arsenal net at the Emirates since 2014.

On that occasion, three years ago, a certain Wayne Rooney was the goalscorer.

Today, United washed away that memory with a smash and grab first half which saw the Gunners goal budge twice before the ripples had even settled.

Jesse Lingard's effort followed Antonio Valencia's with such pace that Arsenal were left shell-shocked. Just what Mourinho ordered.

A knight of the realm watches on

Taking to his seat in the Arsenal crowd Sir Mo Farah watched on, hoping his beloved Gunners could continue their recent winning run.

Cameras picked out the Olympic hero as he anxiously witnessed United's blistering start to the tie.

Sadly, the full-time result provoked no calls for a celebratory Mobot.

The lucky charm of Valencia

Former Wigan man Valencia opened the scoring at the Emirates and, as some United fans may well know, that is often a good omen.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in the 21 games in which the winger turned full-back has hit the back of the net, and carried on that fine statistic again here against Arsenal.

With the Manchester derby coming up and the likes of Paul Pogba ruled out, perhaps Mourinho would be best served starting the Ecuadorian up front...

The big 50

In going about their attacking business with aplomb, United hit the big 50 for their season's goal scoring tally.

Mourinho's in-form side managed to reach the total six games quicker than last season.

In comparison to the 2015-16 campaign under Louis van Gaal, the Red Devils have reached the milestone 13 games quicker. Progression?

Martial's law is now scoring goals and creating chances

Anthony Martial is a man reborn this season.

The Frenchman has forced himself from the fringes of Mourinho's side to one of the first names on the team-sheet.

Still only 21, the forward has matured immeasurably this season, and is now scoring goals and creating chances freely.

Last season the former Monaco man bagged eight goals in 42 games. This season he has eight in 21. While he may not have hit the back of the net at the Emirates, his assist for Lingard's first was a thing of beauty.

Unstoppable De Gea

David De Gea was, as he so often is, incredible for the visitors.

The Spaniard threw himself in the way of everything, as the post match statistics quite dramatically showed.

Of Arsenal's 33 shots, 15 were on target. For his afternoon's football, De Gea pulled off no fewer than 14 saves - the most ever recorded in a Premier League game since stats collecting began.

Incredible. The man is indeed a wall.
