Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United PLAYER RATINGS: David de Gea and Jesse Lingard shine but Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi flop

  • Manchester United won at Arsenal in Saturday night's Premier League offering
  • Jesse Lingard was United's official match-winner, scoring twice in a 3-1 triumph
  • But the Red Devils would not have won without David de Gea, who made 14 saves
  • Arsenal defenders Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi made costly errors

Arsenal's three-game Premier League winning streak came to an end as Manchester United punished Arsene Wenger's side for individual errors at the Emirates.

An awful square pass by Laurent Koscielny assisted Antonio Valencia for United's first, before Shkodran Mustafi's indecision was pounced on by Jesse Lingard for 2-0.

Alexandre Lacazette pulled one back to give Arsenal hope, which was extinguished after Koscielny was overpowered by Paul Pogba, who gift-wrapped a second for Lingard. Pogba was sent off late on for stamping on Hector Bellerin, but Arsenal were unable to mount a comeback, with United goalkeeper David de Gea in fine form.

Arsenal (3-4-3)

Petr Cech - 5

Let ball go under him for Valencia's goal. Did not inspire confidence at any point.

Shkodran Mustafi - 4 (Alex Iwobi 14)

Dallied in possession and lost ball to Jesse Lingard. United scored. Went off injured. An awful quarter of an hour.

Laurent Koscielny - 4

Loose pass in opening minutes put his team in nightmare situation. Looked like a rookie for the third.

Nacho Monreal - 6

The only member of Arsenal's initial three man defence to emerge without a bad mark against his name.

Hector Bellerin - 6

Supported team out-wide and delivered a few teasing balls across the United box.

Aaron Ramsey - 6

Offered drive through middle. Such a clever assist for Lacazette. Some bad decision making.

Granit Xhaka - 6 (Danny Welbeck 70)

Did not do much wrong. At same time, did not make much of an impression on the game.

Sead Kolasinac - 5 (Olivier Giroud 76)

Should have realised he would not meet pass for opener. Struggled against United's pace.

Mesut Ozil - 7

A creative fulcrum and provided enough chances for Arsenal to take something from this game.

Playmaker Mesut Ozil created plenty of chances but his team-mates did not put them away

Alexis Sanchez - 7

His cross for Ramsey showed why he is so coveted. Ragged with his passing at times.

Alexandre Lacazette - 8

Made in-roads against a tough defence using unexpected physical approach. Calm and composed for Arsenal's goal.

Lacazette had an impressive game, especially considering he was a pre-match fitness doubt

Subs

Alex Iwobi 6 - Quiet in the first-half. Grew into the match. Less effective on left.

Danny Welbeck 5 - No real moments of note following his introduction from the bench.

Olivier Giroud 5 - His introduction seemed to stop the flow of Arsenal's attacks.

Manchester United (3-4-3)

David De Gea - 9.5

Excellent save from Lacazette. Double stop in second-half was even better. United wouldn't have won without him.

David de Gea was outstanding in goal, making 14 saves, including a stunner to deny Lacazette

Victor Lindelof - 7

No real problems down his side of the defence. Seems to have got over tricky start in England.

Chris Smalling - 7

Did not inspire any concern at any point in match. Has developed into a calm presence at back.

Marcos Rojo - 6

Went to sleep for Lacazette's goal just after half-time and struggled with Frenchman throughout.

Making just his third appearances this season, Marcos Rojo struggled to deal with Lacazette

Antonio Valencia - 8

Brilliant opening goal defined flow of the match. Has grown into one of best wing-backs in country.

Paul Pogba - 7

Perfect game until his sending off. Will miss Manchester derby. Dampens a display in which he provided two assists.

Paul Pogba's performance was perfect until he was sent off for stamping on Hector Bellerin

Nemanja Matic - 7

Composed in midfield and offered moments of calm in an incredibly end-to-end game.

Ashley Young - 6 (Marcus Rashford 90)

Not same level as his recent form and struggled to make an impact on the match.

Jesse Lingard - 9 (Matteo Darmian 76)

Lived up to growing reputation as a London Lionel Messi. Looks a different player inside the M25.

Lingard was superb, scoring his second and third goals of the week after his stunner at Watford

Romelu Lukaku - 7

Relatively good outlet for United. Linked play well. Does not, currently, look like scoring.

Anthony Martial (Ander Herrera 67) - 7

Lovely flicked assist for Lingard's goal. Aside from that, had a quiet day at the Emirates.

Subs:

Ander Herrera 6 - Came on in attempt to tighten things up and, given result, did his job.

Matteo Darmian 6 - Did nothing of note, good or bad, which is all Mourinho would have asked of him.

Marcus Rashford - Only spent minutes on pitch after stoppage time introduction.
