For nearly an hour at the Etihad, the only players Pep Guardiola must have felt like grabbing around the neck were his own.

Manchester City had been frustrated. Again. Held at bay by a spirited West Ham side who had taken the lead on the stroke of half-time and held out with the help of some quite wonderful goalkeeping from Adrian, City were in danger of losing their 12-game winning run in the Premier League and even suffering their first defeat here in any competition for exactly a year.

It's another late show from Manchester City...

In all competitions that's the fourth game in a row they have scored in the final 10 minutes to secure victory.

They are adding up too as they reestablish a lead of eight points in the Premier League table ahead of Manchester United - with the derby next weekend.

David Moyes can take positives from West Ham's performance but another defeat leaves the Hammers second from bottom in the table.

That's all from me here - post-match reaction to come on the homepage, thanks for following and cheerio.

Manchester City substitution

90+4min: Final change from City as Bernardo Silva replaces Sane.

Meanwhile Adrian races out his box to bring down Gabriel, resulting in a booking.

17:52

90+1min: As we enter four added minutes, West Ham waste a big chance to grab a shock equaliser.

Arnautovic bullies Eliaquim Mangala off the ball on the right but after cutting back into the box an unmarked Diafra Sakho firs just wide of the post.

Should score and Guardiola's reaction is to aggressively throw a fist towards the board members watching the game.

West Ham United substitution

88min: Antonio has run his socks off this afternoon but having picked up cramp he has now been replaced by Andre Ayew.

17:46
Manchester City substitution

85min: Immediately after Silva's goal, Guadriola raced towards his technical area to prepare a change and Fernandinho is on for Aguero.

GOAL! MANCHESTER CITY 2-1 West Ham United

83min: They've just been too deep for too long have West Ham, and finally Manchester City break through to take the lead as De Bruyne's chipped pass into the box is cushion volleyed into the net by David Silva. It's another late show from Pep Guardiola's side.

17:42

81min: Too keen from City. They pile forward but one misplaced pass leads to a West Ham counter attack. Antonio cuts inside from the left but his 23-yard strike is beaten away by Ederson. Back come City...again.

17:40

79min: Now Aguero has a shot blocked from 20 yards. There is just no respite for the West Ham defence as City just keep on launching attack after attack.

17:38

77min: City are getting closer. David Silva has a shot blocked inside the box before the ball is scrambled out for a corner. It's starting to look like Arsenal's onslaught over Manchester United from yesterday now.

Raheem Sterling of Manchester City shoots and misses after trying to convert a rebound
17:35

74min: West Ham are starting to look tired at the back but can they hold out Manchester City in these final 15 minutes? Almost this entire second period has been played in the West Ham half.

17:32

71min: Chance missed for City. Adrian manages to keep out a City shot, but can only parry the ball towards Sterling.

But from close range the City forward never manages to gt the ball under control with the goal at his mercy and the chance eventually passes.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola rues a wasted chance from his side
17:30

70min: More long distance nonsense from City as De Bruyne's 30-yard effort, even with a slight deflection, is easily saved by Adrian.

17:29
West Ham United substitution

69min: Second change for West Ham as David Moyes replaces the tired legs of Manuel Lanzini with Marko Arnautovic.

17:28

67min: Decent save from Adrian after Leroy Sane menacingly dribbles into the box from the left before seeing his rising drive from the angle beaten away by the keeper.

17:27

66min: West Ham appear to have weathered the storm, with the added bonus of being able to press a little higher too.

Manchester City have taken to shooting from long range as David Silva fires over the bar from 25 yards.

17:21

61min: The signs are pointing towards a tough final half-hour for West Ham as Leroy Sane cuts inside before seeing his shot across goal beaten away by Adrian.

17:19

59min: First booking for Manchester City as Kevin de Bruyne trips Arthur Masuaku.

GOAL! MANCHESTER CITY 1-1 West Ham United

57min: But City recycle the attack and grab an equaliser as Sterling plays Jesus into the box whose low cross is well converted by Nicolas Otamendi.

17:16

56min: Rice, on a booking don't forget, gives away a free-kick on the edge of the box after tripping Fabian Delph. Kevin de Bruyne stands over...

...and forces a top save from Adrian who leaps to his left to beat away the set-piece.

17:15

55min: For about the first time this afternoon the City fans get involved with vocal chants of 'Come on City.'

City have a bit more zip about them in this period but they still can't create a chance.

17:13

52min: Same old problems for City, whose approach to this second half seems to be to try and dribble their way through the sea of black shirts in front of them.

Sterling does manage to weave his way into the box but he runs out of options as West Ham win the ball before clearing.

17:09

49min: Nasty one for Manuel Lanzini who takes an innocuous knee to the back from Eliaquim Mangala as he receives treatment on the pitch. He should be ok to continue though.

17:07

47min: Already Manchester City win a free-kick as Kevin de Bruyne is hauled down by Pedro Obiang 35 yards out to the right.

17:05
No surprises as City make a change for the SECOND HALF

Danilo is the fall guy for Manchester City's truly shocking 45 minutes as Gabriel Jesus is on to help Sergio Aguero in attack.

HEAD TO HEAD: Aguero (Manchester City) vs Antonio (West Ham)

Considering Aguero was expected to be fed service on a platter fit for a King and by contrast Antonio may have been prepared to seek out scraps like a fox on an urban street, there hasn't been a lot between the players in that first half.

In fact the West Ham 'false nine' has had the better opportunities in front of goal.

That 6-0 bet for Manchester City looks rather silly now doesn't it?

But while I didn't think Manchester City would tear West Ham United a new one this afternoon, I didn't expect Pep Guardiola's team to put in their worst 45 minutes of the season that leaves them trailing at the break.

Shall we throw some credit to the Hammers though? David Moyes' reputation has taken a battering in recent years but he has tactically run rings around Guardiola in the first half.

16:50
HALF-TIME: Manchester City 0-1 West Ham United
West Ham United's Angelo Ogbonna (centre) heads the ball to score the opening goal
Ogbonna celebrates scoring West Ham United's shock opening goal with team-mates
16:50

45+4min: Oh, to be a fly on the wall of the Manchester City changing room at half-time. Pep Guardiola will be absolutely seething at his side's shambolic first half display.

16:48

45+1min: There will be four added minutes to the first half with City still not haven woken up.

16:44
GOAL! Manchester City 0-1 WEST HAM UNITED

45min: Shock scoreline? Not if you have watched the first 45 minutes! A cross is swung in from the right and with a thumping header Angelo Ogbonna gives the Hammers a lead they fully deserve.

16:42
West Ham United substitution

43min: Nope. Kevin de Bruyne's ball into the box is easily cleared as West Ham survive once more.

Kouyate's injury was genuine aftrerall as he walks off to be replaced by Diafra Sakho.

West Ham United's Manuel Lanzini shoots but his effort is saved by Manchester City's Ederson
16:42

42min: Maybe City can try something from a set-piece? Nothing else is working as Walker is brought down on the right 35 yards out.

16:40

39min: Problems for West Ham as Kouyate has picked up a knock and is now receiving treatment on the pitch. It looked like a hamstring complaint but I think he may continue here - suggesting he may have made a bit of a meal of this.

Leroy Sane (right) of Manchester City and Declan Rice of West Ham United compete for the ball
16:38

38min: t's all getting rather desperate for Manchester City who have been woeful by their standards in this first period, with Kyle Walker drilling well off target from long range.

16:37

36min: Chance for West Ham! The Manchester City defenders get all mixed up in the box and it allows the ball to fall for Manuel Lanzini whose powerful near post effort is palmed behind by Ederson.

There's been arguably four chances in this game (including half-chances) and three of them have been for the Hammers.

16:34

33min: A change in pattern as Nicolas Otamendi avoids a booking after bringing down a West Ham player.

Pep Guardiola is not a happy man on the touchline as he continues to watch his side labour.

Manchester City's Nicolas Otamendi (left) vies with West Ham United's Manuel Lanzini for the ball
16:32

30min: West Ham continue to swat away anything Manchester City offer them in way of attack. There isn't much tempo in the hosts play but the final ball has also been very weak so far.

16:28

27min: Still a bit too early in the game for Sterling to make his mark - he needs at least another hour as he slices well wide from the edge of the box

16:26

25min: Finally, a Manchester City shot. David Silva lets fly from 25 yards and although his effort deflects off Rice, Adrian readjusts to tip it over the crossbar.

Michail Antonio of West Ham United tries to close down Manchester City keeper Ederson
16:25

23min: Anyone who bought into the hype of Manchester City being able to beat West Ham 23-0 today will be very disappointed with how this game has gone so far.

City look comfortable but then so do West Ham as they admire the hosts' ability to knock the ball around the pitch without doing much else with it.

16:21

20min: Twenty minutes on the clock and despite having seen the ball for no more than 10 seconds West Ham have created the game's best openings - yes plural.

Another opportunity falls to Antonio who just can't make contact at the near post following a low ball into the box as Ederson eventually claims.

16:18

17min: First booking of the game as Declan Rice is cautioned for tripping leroy Sane and halting a counter.

West Ham boss David Moyes shouts instructions to his team from the touchline
16:18

16min: I may even go as far as saying that the Bournemouth vs Southampton game had more to show in the opening 15 minutes - and that was rather poor even by lower half of the table standards. David Moyes will be delighted with his side so far though.

16:16

13min: Most of City's attacks are coming down the left flank but they continue to prove ineffective.

West Ham are playing incredibly deep with very little space inbetween their back five and the midfield four. Angelo Ogbonna looks like he has been tasked with covering that very small area.

16:12

10min: You may say City have made a sloppy start but some credit must go to West Ham here who have defended well in the early stages. Adrian hasn't had much to do at all in the Hammers goal, even if the hosts continue to dominate.

West Ham defender Pablo Zabaleta makes a sliding challenge on Manchester City's Danilo
16:08

7min: And there is our first chance... for West Ham! The Hammers win a corner and Cheikhou Kouyate meets the delivery at the near post with a headed flick on that Michail Antonio at full stretch turns over at the back stick.

Raheem Sterling of Manchester City is tackled inside the box in the early stages
16:07

6min: Over five minutes gone and Manchester City are yet to create a chance. The wheels are falling off the wagon, City have bottled it, etc.

16:05

3min: It's a damning indictment on the Premier League and the closeness of the competition, but some bookies think there is more chance of Manchester City wining 6-0 today than West Ham United actually winning.

Betting against City of course seems like the equivalent of setting light to all your bank notes and they of course start the game camped in West Ham's half.
