Manchester United 1-2 Manchester City: EIGHT THINGS YOU MISSED - Pep Guardiola unimpressed by Santa hats, half-and-half scarf 'arrests' and pundits tuck into their Sunday lunch

  • Manchester Police said they would 'consider' arrests for half and half scarves
  • The Sky Sports pundits were snapped tucking into pies before the game
  • Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho had a touchline chat during the first half

The Manchester derby was as full of thrills and spills as anyone watching would have hoped - so full, you may have missed a few things.

Manchester City won the day thanks to goals from David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi, either side of a strike by Marcus Rashford

Here, Sportsmail examines some of the moments, stats and funny bits you may not have noticed during the action at Old Trafford...

Santa Mangala doesn't impress Guardiola

The weather outside has been frightful this weekend, with the Premier League's players having to find ways of keeping warm when not on the pitch.

After Michy Batshuayi was seen cuddling a hot water bottle on Saturday, Eliaquim Mangala and Bernardo Silva warmed up wearing City-coloured Santa hats, which they also wore on the bench.

These did not seem to impress Pep Guardiola however, who was seen to snatch Mangala's hat off his head as he warmed up in the second half.

Send them down

Few things get modern football fans angrier than people wearing half-and-half scarves to games - particularly derby matches - and now even the law is getting involved.

Greater Manchester Police were tweeted, asking them to arrest anyone seen wearing such a knitted abomination at the game.

To their credit, the bobbies at GMP saw the funny side, promising they would 'consider if an arrest is necessary'.

Sunday Lunch

It was a long stint in the studio for the Sky Sports pundits, taking in first the Merseyside then the Manchester derby for Super Sunday.

As a result, food was delivered up to Gary Neville, Graeme Souness, Jamie Carragher and special guest Noel Gallagher.

The four tucked into warming pie and vegetables as they prepared for their work covering events at Old Trafford.

Tables turned

For so long, United have unquestionably been the superior force in the Manchester derby - but in recent years all that has gone on its head.

After this game, United have lost eight of their last 13 games against City, winning only three of them.

This is more defeats than they had suffered, remarkably, in the previous 45 league fixtures, where they lost seven and won 22.

Pep Guardiola more than pipping Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho versus Pep Guardiola is a footballing rivalry that has travelled over from Real Madrid v Barcelona to be played out in north-west England.

While it is rightly viewed as a competition between two of the great managerial minds, in head to head terms it is notably one-sided.

Mourinho has won just four of his 20 managerial meetings with Guardiola, drawing seven and losing nine.

Friendly rivals?

For all their rivalry and jibes in the build up however, Pep and Jose did not seem too unfriendly on the touchline.

When Marcos Rojo and David Silva needed treatment after clashing heads, the two were captured on camera having a cosy chat.

Were they engaging in mind games or exchanging Christmas present ideas? We may never know.

'Frozen derby day'

With the swirling snow and ice around Old Trafford on Sunday, it was a tough day even for those born and bred in Manchester - let alone sunny Spain.

However, David de Gea's wife Edurne braved the cold to watch her husband in action - albeit wearing a hood the size of which would not have pleased anyone sat behind her.

Mrs De Gea tweeted the snap and said it was a 'frozen derby day' - she certainly was not wrong on either count.

Lukaku's big game impact

A major criticism of Romelu Lukaku has been his inability to make a major impression on big games. That changed on Sunday - although not in the way he hoped.

Lukaku was at fault for both City's goals, accidentally heading down for David Silva's opener, before his clearance fell to Nicolas Otamendi for No 2.

Twitter, as ever, was not a kind nor forgiving place, with plenty of jokes made at the striker's expense.
