Huddersfield boss David Wagner turns attention to Chelsea after defeating Brighton: 'We will be very focused'

David Wagner has little time to savour Huddersfield's display in Saturday's home Premier League win against Brighton.

Wagner said his side turned in one of their best performances of the season as two first-half goals from Steve Mounie halted a four-game losing streak.

But the Terriers head coach must quickly turn his attention to Tuesday's visit of Chelsea to the John Smith's Stadium.

'I'm not sure Chelsea will be too much focused on us, but what I can say is we will be focused on Chelsea,' Wagner said.

'We've watched them as well before our game, so now we will enjoy this great performance, not only the result, the performance was very strong as well.

'From Sunday we will start to get very focused on Chelsea, which is the next game in front of us.'

Huddersfield maintained their habit of eking out the best of their resources at the John Smith's Stadium and their fourth home league win of the season lifted them above Brighton into 11th place in the table.

Steve Mounie was the star of the show and hit a brace as the Terriers got back to winning ways

Three crucial points were never in doubt once Mounie took advantage of some shoddy Brighton defending to head home his second shortly before the interval and the Terriers spent most of the second period chasing a third goal.

'The idea is the higher we press our opponent, the further away the ball is from our goal and this was why, even in the second half, we were on our front foot and in their faces,' Wagner added.

'This was the idea. We wanted to score the third goal because then it's probably game over and the game killed. This was our aim.

'We created these moments and always looked more like we would score our third goal than Brighton would score their first.'

It was an unhappy return to Huddersfield for Brighton's on-loan Chelsea forward Izzy Brown, who spent last season on loan at Town and played a key role in their promotion.

'To come back here was a great feeling, but the result wasn't anything that we wanted. We were very disappointed in the changing room,' he told Brighton's official website.

'I was trying to give my team-mates tips before the game on who I think will play and how they press, but it's tough to play against Huddersfield because they are so in your face and give you no time on the ball.'

Brown's expected return to Huddersfield in the summer did not materialise, but he was given a standing ovation by the home fans when withdrawn in the 73rd minute.

'It's nice that the fans still think highly of me,' he added. 'We had a great season together winning the play-offs at Wembley. It was an amazing achievement.'
