Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher bumps into Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin as he says: 'Finally got hold of the cheat who cost the Reds two points'

  • Jamie Carragher caught up with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in Liverpool on Monday
  • Carragher seemed to go back on his conclusion that Everton deserved a penalty
  • He posted an image of him and Calvert-Lewin on Instagram on Monday evening
  • Carragher also added that he also saw Everton's Tom Davies at the same time

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher accepted, as many others did, that referee Craig Pawson was right to award a penalty when Dejan Lovren made contact with Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It was from that penalty, which was scored by Wayne Rooney, that Everton equalised and earned a share of the points in Sunday's Merseyside derby.

But Carragher seemed to briefly change his tune on Monday when he bumped into Calvert-Lewin while shopping in Liverpool.

'Finally got hold of the cheat Calvert-Lewin who cost the Reds 2 points!' Carragher wrote on Instagram along with a picture of the pair.

He then wrote on Twitter: 'I've changed my mind. Just bumped into @CalvertLewin14 even he said he dived.'

A few minutes later, however, Carragher, added: 'He didn't to be fair as I didn't give him a chance to speak after telling him & Tom Davies they were jammy B******s!!!!!'

The decision made by referee Pawson in the second half wasn't well received by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Still seething at full-time, Klopp was found it difficult to compose himself during his post-match media commitments with Sky Sports.

Answering the questions of broadcaster Patrick Davison, Klopp said: 'The ref thought he had to make it a little bit more. I can't believe the situation with all the challenges. We were clean and didn't make any fouls.

'There is always one nasty one - Sigurdsson made that. A clear red card. You see the picture of the penalty. Calvert-Lewin is smart and he makes a step but even then it is nothing. But it is a penalty and one team can celebrate and we can't.'

Klopp apologised to Davison after the frank discussion, but that wasn't enough for BBC Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer who delivered a scathing verdict of Klopp and suggested had he had got his team selection right they might have done better.

He said: 'We've heard Klopp come on and say it was a terrible decision and there's only one team were going to win it, well have a look at your own team selection.

'Instead of blaming the referee blame yourself and blame your players for stupid defending and not going 2-0 up when Mane goes through

'You've left a guy out who scored a hat-trick in midweek [Philippe Coutinho] and as a centre forward I know that the time to be left out is when you're not scoring goals you can't wait to get out on to the pitch when you're a forward and you're scoring goals.'
