Manchester United youngster Scott McTominay set to spark transfer tussle as Leeds and a host of Champonship rivals want him on loan

Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay is attracting interest from a host of Championship clubs ahead of the January window with Leeds United among those hoping to take him on loan.

The 21-year-old has experienced something of a breakthrough at Old Trafford this season and has won a huge fan in Jose Mourinho.

However, with competition for places in the United starting XI high, McTominay may be allowed to garner first-team experience away from the club.

According to The Sun, Leeds, Preston and Bolton are all considering a January offer to take him on loan for the rest of the season. The first two are hoping to mount a bid for the play-off places while the latter are more concerned with relegation.

Mourinho has a lot to consider before allowing his rising starlet to leave as doubts remain over several of his current crop of senior midfielders. Michael Carrick is still short of fitness following a heart procedure while Marouane Fellaini's contract dispute continues to rumbles on.

The main concern for Mourinho will be whether he could find himself short of options if he does allow McTominay to leave and if that could hamper their efforts to restart a Premier League title bid.

McTominay's biggest moment in a Manchester United shirt came as he completed 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League. That chance was granted to him following a good performance against Swansea in the Carabao Cup.

An Old Trafford source said: 'Around five clubs have already asked about Scott and whether he will be available when the window opens.

'Jose has promised to keep him in the loop. He wants him to get action, but there are issues in that area which might stop it.'
