Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba may have left Ashton Gate under a cloud, but he still made the day of local youngsters with pictures and high fives.

Pogba started in midfield for United as they suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Championship side Bristol City in the Carabao Cup quarter final.

While it was a disappointing night for the Frenchman on the field, he went out of his way to make sure it was memorable for young admirers off it.

Before the game, Pogba was pictured meeting and greeting the Bristol City mascots, offering a high five to one boy in full kit.

As United arrived at the stadium, many of the mascots were queuing up as excited to meet the £89million midfielder as they were the players of the team they support.

Pogba was happy to oblige, and was snapped signing autographs for a long line of red shirted young supporters.

On the pitch, Pogba was treated with rather less reverence as he failed to meet his own high standards during the Wednesday evening game.

Pogba played the full 90 minutes, but made several mistakes and was booked during the game as City ran out winners.

The defeat brings to an end United's defence of the trophy they won last season, and denies Jose Mourinho what he regards as an important piece of silverware.
