Sir Alex Ferguson cannot envisage Jose Mourinho changing Manchester United's style of play, says Dwight Yorke.

Yorke was speaking to the former United manager about the perception that Mourinho's style is overly cautious and negative.

And according to the ex-forward, who was speaking in his role as a pundit for beIN Sports, Ferguson thinks Mourinho will remain set in his tried and tested ways.

Yorke said: 'He's done that type of stuff as a manager throughout his career.

'He's been very successful doing it this way. I had this conversation with Sir Alex last week, and he can't see him changing because if you're successful this way, why would you want to change?'

United have dropped points in their last two games with frustrating draws against Leicester and Burnley.

The Old Trafford club created plenty of chances against the Foxes but failed to capitalise and were pegged back by a Harry Maguire equaliser at the death.

The role was reversed against Burnley as Jesse Lingard popped up late on to nick a point for Mourinho's men.

There are many who regard the former Chelsea boss as conservative, a perception enhanced by Manchester City's glittering football which has lifted Pep Guardiola's side to a 12-point lead with a game in hand over their rivals.

Mocking chants of 'park the bus Man United' have echoed around grounds up and down the country as the attacking verve of old has made way for a more pragmatic approach.

That said, only Tottenham, Liverpool and City have scored more goals than United in the league this season and no doubt Mourinho would point to the number of chances his side have created.

His team are also second in the table and with a rich history of silverware across Europe, it seems Ferguson would be correct in thinking Mourinho can point to the trophy cabinet as justification for his methods.
