Jese Rodriguez still wants to make a success of his loan spell at Stoke, according to Mark Hughes.

The striker has not featured since November 29 due to the ill health of his baby son but Hughes is ready to call on him for the second half of the season.

Jese is back at the club having spent much of the past month in Spain, where his son is being cared for in hospital. He also had a row with Hughes over game-time after being an unused substitute against Swansea.

The 24-year-old is on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain, with Stoke paying his £60,000 per week wages, and there has been speculation the arrangement might be terminated early.

Jese enjoyed an explosive start to his career in England, scoring the winner over Arsenal, but he has only started seven Premier League matches in total and been left out of the last five squads.

But Hughes said: 'He wants to be a success here. Clearly the Premier League is where he wants to be, with us.

'It's just unfortunate because of his family circumstances that he hasn't been able to fully commit to what he's needed to do here to be effective for us.'

He added: 'You have to understand it's something that couldn't have been avoided.

'It seems like his family situation is settling down so he might be able to refocus now for a decent length of time. Hopefully that's the case.'

Jese returned to Stoke on December 21 having been granted leave for a fortnight and is still building up his match fitness.

'He might get back to the level he needs to be at very soon, hopefully,' said Hughes.
