Burnley 1-2 Liverpool, RESULT: Plus rest of the 3pm Premier League action inclduing Stoke City 0-1 Newcastle United and Leicester City 3-0 Huddersfield Town

That last gasp victory for Liverpool puts the pressure on their old rivals Manchester United, as the two sides are now only separated by goal difference in the Premier League table.

In fact should Everton win by three goals this evening against the Red Devils, Liverpool could still end New Year's Day above Jose Mourinho's team.

Meanwhile at Turf Moor Liverpool go close to killing the game off as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is denied by a fabulous Nick Pope stop.

No signs of a comeback at the King Power Stadium, instead Leicester should have the game wrapped up only for a Wilfried Ndidi header to clatter off the crossbar.

'Slimani didn't show much outward emotion after scoring his goal but his team-mates were clearly delighted for him. It's been a decent showing from the big man in Vardy's absence.'

It's coming what looks like far too late for Stoke but the home side are getting on top as Karl Darlow makes a magnificent save to deny Mame Diouf from close range.

Just when you thought it wasn't going to be Newcastle's day. With 17 minutes left the Toon lead after Ayoze Perez buries a finish into the net following a low Jacob Murphy cross.

Newcastle are threatening again, with Dwight Gayle unlucky not to win a penalty after appearing to be pushed over by Kurt Zouma.

'The wind is sheeting down at Stoke now and it’s probably for the best that Xherdan Shaqiri is off the pitch.

'The Swiss star upset his own fans by pulling out of a tackle and was then jeered for not chasing a pass from Eric Choupo-Moting.

'Mark Hughes promptly summoned Mame Diouf from the bench and took Shaqiri off.'

Now that's how you score your first Premier League goal since April. Islam Slimani is put through on goal and one-on-one with Jonas Lossl before beating the Huddersfield Town keeper with a brilliant chip.

It felt like just Newcastle who had any interest in at least trying to score this afternoon, but Burnley go close to breaking the deadlock.

Barnes gets the better of Dejan Lovren to knock the ball down for Scott Arfield who curls a shot just a yard wide.

I don't know what Christian Atsu got for Christmas, but I know what he didn't get - shooting boots.

The Toon winger has yet another chance to open the scoring after getting on the end of a DeAndre Yedlin cross only to fire straight at Jack Butland from six yards out.

Stoke's choice to rest all all their key players against Chelsea isn't showing much sign of paying off so far.

Newcastle have started the better team and have a good chance to open the scoring as Christian Atsu collects a cut-back on the edge of the box before curling wide of the post. Must do better though.

Still looking for our first Premier League goal. Burnley nearly get it through Ashley Barnes but the forward fires just over the bar from inside the Liverpool box.

'There is no Philippe Coutinho in Liverpool’s squad. Jurgen Klopp has made seven changes to the team that beat Leicester on Saturday. The official explanation for Coutinho’s absence is that he has a thigh problem but he could be fit to face Everton on Friday.

'Mo Salah, as expected, is absent due to a groin issue. He, too, could be ready for the FA Cup third round tie.'

There are 11 changes in all at the bet365 Stadium, and Stoke City make six of them following their 5-0 hammering at Chelsea.

Kurt Zouma, Erik Pieters, Joe Allen, Xherdan Shaqiri, Eric Choupo-Moting and Peter Crouch all return as Josh Tymon, Mame Diouf, Ibraham Afellay, Darren Fletcher, Ramadan Sobhi and Saido Berahino drop out.

Newcastle make five changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Brighton as Javi Manquillo, Jacob Murphy, Jonjo Shelvey, Mohamed Diame and Ayoze Perez replace Paul Dummett, Isaac Hayden, Mikel Merino, Dwight Gayle and Joselu.

The big news for Leicester City is that Adrien Silva is on the bench having finally been registered to play having joined the club a mere few seconds too late following the summer transfer window.

The Foxes meanwhile make three changes as Matty James, Shinji Okazaki and Islam Slimani come in for Jamie Vardy, Vicente Iborra, and Demarari Gray.

Huddersfield Town meanwhile make five alterations as Florent Hadergjonaj, Jonathan Hogg, Scott Malone, Laurent Depoitre and Collin Quaner are replaced by Tommy Smith, Chris Lowe, Danny Williams, Steve Mounie and Joe Lolley come into the side.

Jurgen Klopp has made seven changes to the Liverpool side that came from behind to defeat Leicester City 2-1.

Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all drop out as does Loris Karius, Joel Matip, Andy Robertson and James Milner as Simon Mignolet, Ragnar Klavan, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dominic Solanke all return.

New signing Virgil van Dijk is unavailable to face Burnley who make just one change as James Tarkowski returns to replace Kevin Long in defence.
