Chelsea manager Antonio Conte says signing Alexis Sanchez would be a good move for Man City or Man United: 'The amount is £20m, the normal price for him is £80-90m'

  • Chelsea boss Conte believes signing Sanchez would represent good business
  • Manchester City and Manchester United are interested in £25m Arsenal forward
  • Chelsea haven't joined the race for Sanchez, whose contract expires in summer
  • Conte said there is a chance to sign Chilean for a fraction of his value

Antonio Conte claims a move to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal this month would represent good business for any of the top Premier League clubs.

Chelsea have not joined the chase for Sanchez who is out of contract and able to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Manchester City have been on his trail since a failed bid to sign him last summer and remain keen but Manchester United lead the bidding with an offer of £25million.

'It is a good investment,' said Conte. 'We are talking about a top player and you can buy him for a price that is not so high. The amount is around £20million. Maybe a normal price for Alexis Sanchez is £80-90m.

'In the past, Manchester City have shown if they want to take a player they go and buy this player. If Manchester City wants Alexis Sanchez they buy Alexis Sanchez. They don't have a problem about this money or this investment.'

When Conte was Juventus manager he tried to sign the Chilean international from Udinese and was seen chatting with Sanchez in the tunnel at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea and Arsenal met in a Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.

'He's a great player and he knows very well in my first season in Juventus we tried to buy him from Udinese and then he decided to go to Barcelona,' said the Chelsea manager.

'He knows well my admiration for him and this was a good chance to say hello to him.

'Arsenal has to decide his future because they decide if they sell him now but his future for sure will be in a great club.'

Conte has made no secret of his desire to see Chelsea compete for the biggest signings.

Ross Barkley, a £15m transfer from Everton, has been the only addition so far in the January transfer window for the champions.

Barkley is lined up for a debut against Norwich in the FA Cup third round replay on Wednesday.

'He is working hard and maybe against Norwich he could be available in contention,' said Conte.

'I hope so, and if he continues this way, why not? He is not ready 100 per cent but he can help us for the rest of the season.'

Conte also admitted left-back Baba Rahmann could return to Schalke on loan as he recovers from a cruciate knee ligaments injury.

'It could be an interesting option for the player to try to recover with them,' said Conte.
