David Moyes wants the Premier League’s January transfer window cut down to just a week — after spotting a potential solution to clubs’ winter woes in Italy.

Moyes is frustrated with how slowly deals are going through and expects West Ham’s business to go right to the wire at the end of the window.

The Hammers want a right winger and have looked at Arsenal’s Theo Walcott after having bids for other targets turned down.

But with players and clubs across the country waiting on moves, Moyes thinks he sees a solution.

‘I think that we need something to be able to change if we want a window,’ he said. ‘I don’t think we need a month, I think we should probably take it down to a week and then we wouldn’t have all the problems.

‘Maybe there’s a week where the work has to get done and if it doesn’t get done then you don’t do it. Something like that would quicken it up and make it much easier.

‘It can be unsettling for players but also it can be a time when you can improve your side if you can find the players.’ In Italy, every club from the top two divisions gather at a hotel in Milan on deadline day to iron out deals and force through moves.

Directors, executives, agents, journalists and players turn up, usually at Milan’s four-star ATA Hotel, to finish off their business.

Moyes would like to see a similar set-up in England, with clubs having already agreed to close the summer window before the start of the season.

‘That’s the way it works in Italy and it’s done by midnight,’ Moyes said. ‘You have to get it done by midnight to rubber stamp the deals, everybody is in there. They do all the business in one day.

‘Maybe it would be better if we had a day like that… instead of a day where everyone is wearing a yellow tie!’

Meanwhile, the club have issued an indefinite ban to the supporter who was involved in a verbal altercation with West Brom’s Jake Livermore.
