Manchester United have pulled off a coup to sign Alexis Sanchez... he's the closest thing to a modern-day Ian Rush
- Alexis Sanchez could push Marcus Rashford down the Manchester United ranks
- The England striker is already finding chances to impress Jose Mourinho limited
- When he is on it, Sanchez is the nearest thing to a modern-day Ian Rush
There is a concern that the arrival of Alexis Sanchez could dent Marcus Rashford’s career.
I cannot imagine Gareth Southgate will be too pleased if the opportunities for one of the best young English players are reduced — especially in a World Cup year.
Jose Mourinho seems to be a man for now, not the future. He wants players who are the finished article.
Alexis Sanchez's arrival at Manchester United will be a challenge for Marcus Rashford
You get the feeling that it is survival of the fittest at Old Trafford. The last time I watched them there, I saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan struggling to cope in that environment. Now he is leaving the club.
I do think Rashford can handle the pressure. He just needs to slow things down when he gets his chance from the bench.
He is doing everything at a frantic pace because he feels he needs to do more to catch his manager’s eye. I want to see more from him — he just needs to relax a little.
At big clubs, your place is always in danger. If Rashford keeps believing in himself, he can have a bright future at United.
The young striker will find opportunities limited once the Chilean moves to Old Trafford
Mourinho has still pulled off quite a coup to sign a player of Sanchez’s quality.
Romelu Lukaku has looked isolated up front in recent weeks. To thrive, he needs players in and around him. While Sanchez could start wide on the left, that is not where he wants to play. He will be drawn into a central position and get close to Lukaku.
When he is on it, Sanchez is the nearest thing to a modern-day Ian Rush. He homes in on defenders like an Exocet missile.
Mourinho has to make him play high up the pitch. Sometimes, when he is frustrated, Sanchez will drop back deeper to get touches of the ball.
He is at his most dangerous when playing on the shoulder of the last defender and that is where he must be.
Sanchez is very similar to Liverpool legend Ian Rush, he attacks defenders like a missile
