Annual wages: £263.5m vs £1.2m; record signings: £89m vs £250,000; biggest crowds: 74,994 vs 9,527... the staggering numbers that separate Manchester United and Yeovil Town

When Alexis Sanchez makes his Manchester United debut against Yeovil Town in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday evening, it will provide a fitting example for the stark differences between the two clubs.

The Chilean's £350,000-a-week wage, or £50,000 per day, is more than 10 times more than Yeovil's entire budget of £23,000 each week, so it is no wonder their owner John Fry has described the deal as 'obscene'.

But the contrast between these two side only begins at a financial level. Sportsmail runs through the tale of the tape ahead of a classic FA Cup encounter.

Darren Way

The former midfielder spent the majority of his playing career at Yeovil before a devastating car crash forced him into an early retirement. Manchester United actually helped raise funds by sending a young team to play in his testimonial.

Way has been part of the coaching staff at Huish Park since 2010 and took over as manager two-and-a-half years ago. He’s feeling the heat from supporters at the moment, with Yeovil precariously close to the League Two drop. Biggest achievement is winning promotion to the Championship when coach under Gary Johnson in 2013.

Jose Mourinho

A born winner, the Manchester United boss has 25 titles to his name, winning leagues in four different countries and twice lifting then Champions League. Slight parallels could be drawn between his playing career in Portugal in the 1980s and Way’s, although Mourinho remained on the periphery at his lower division clubs.

This week signed a new contract at Old Trafford until 2020, with the option of a further year - putting an end to speculation surrounding his future. Mourinho’s has reinstated a winning mentality at United and now must go for the top silverware over the next year or two.

Owners

Yeovil

John Fry and Norman Hayward own 92 per cent of Yeovil Town between them and fans are worried as to whether the football club actually owns the ground. Chairman Fry maintains that it does, although Hayward is owed £427,000 by the parent company Yeovil Town Holdings.

Fry criticised the Glovers Trust for going public with concerns and accused them of creating misconceptions.

Manchester United

The Glazer family’s net worth stands at more than £3billion but their ownership at United has been met with fierce criticism from supporters thanks to spiralling debt. They have, however, released funds over the last few years for managers to land top targets.

Transfer fees

Yeovil

Argentine forward Pablo Bastianini cost £250,000 from Quilmes Athletic Club back in 2005. He played 20 league games for Yeovil, scoring three times, before joining Ionikos in Greece. Full back Lee Peltier is believed to have signed for around £200,000 from Liverpool in 2008.

Manchester United

Paul Pogba remains Manchester United’s record signing at an initial £89million during Mourinho’s first summer in charge. Romelu Lukaku joined from Everton this season for a first down payment of £75m.

Wages

Yeovil’s wage budget this season stands at around £1.2m, giving Way £23,000 to play with a week, and it’s unlikely any member of his squad is on any more than £2,000. Their budget might sound minuscule but it actually dwarfs that of third-placed Accrington Stanley (£800,000).

In contrast, Manchester United's latest accounts showed a total £263.5m spent on annual wages.

Alexis Sanchez’s pay packet is well documented, with the new United striker taking home a basic wage of £350,000 – the highest in the Premier League – with image rights and bonuses taking that beyond £450,000.

Fry is outraged by that, saying: ‘The Sanchez deal is outrageous — absolutely obscene.

‘This is all out of proportion — it doesn’t relate to the man in the street and they are switching off because of it and we are losing customers.

‘They think we are paying outrageous money as well, which obviously we’re not, but that doesn’t help us attract new fans.’

Trophy cabinet

Yeovil

Biggest trophy has to be the 2014 League One play-offs, completing their remarkable rise to the Championship under Johnson. Also won the Conference and League Two titles in their time, the FA Trophy and a number of non-league gongs too.

Manchester United

Twenty league titles (13 since the Premier League’s inception), 12 FA Cup crowns, three Champions Leagues. Five League Cup hauls and a few others.

Stadiums

Yeovil

Huish Park’s record attendance stands at 9,527 when Leeds United were in town for a League One fixture in 2008. The previous fixture against Manchester United three years ago saw more than 9,000 crammed in.

Old Trafford – this country’s largest stadium - could well be expanded in the future, with United’s popularity dictating far more than 74,994 could be housed.
