'It was quite surprising at the start because obviously he [Sanchez] wasn't linked with us at all and everything moved really quickly,' Shaw told Flow Sports Premier.

'But really happy, obviously he's a phenomenal player. One of the best in the world, the quality he'll bring to the side will surely boost our attacking threat.

'We've already seen his quality in training and some of the things he's done is a joke,' he added.

The English defender's comments saw United fans take to social media to show their excitement about the club's latest signing.

One fan said they were 'genuinely excited' as a supporter to hear about Shaw's enthusiasm, while another started dreaming up the link-up play between the two left-sided players.

A few others couldn't wait any longer to see the Chile international in action and asked where they could get a glimpse of Sanchez in the training session Shaw was talking about.
