Chelsea manager Antonio Conte reveals Michy Batshuayi could face Bournemouth as he slams league for not moving transfer deadline

Antonio Conte insists striker Michy Batshuayi is in contention for Chelsea's match at home to Bournemouth on Wednesday night – but also accepts the striker's future is 'in the balance' as the club continue to pursue Olivier Giroud from Arsenal.

The transfer deadline is at 11pm on Wednesday night for Premier League and a frenzy of striker transfers is expected in the coming day.

Both players' futures are linked to Arsenal's own deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund – whose transfer requires Dortmund to sign a striker of their own to replace the Gabonese forward Aubameyang.

Batshuayi is among those targets but Chelsea will then need their own striker, with Giroud from Arsenal now emerging as the likeliest signing. Fernando Llorente is another option but Tottenham want over £15m for the striker.

When asked about Giroud, Conte said: 'I give my opinion to the club, then the club is trying to do their best in the transfer market. I can speak about specific characteristics or the role we can improve. But we are talking about players from another team. We need to have respect.'

As Alvaro Morata continues to recover from a back injury, Chelsea are training with Batshuayi involved for their upcoming game – despite the fact he could leave for Dortmund before the German 5pm deadline on Wednesday.

Conte said of Batshuayi: 'Batshuayi is in contention for tomorrow's game. Now he is a Chelsea player, so he is contention for Wednesday's game. Morata is injured, I don't have many options. Willian is also injured.

'It is not the best situation to prepare a Premier League game. To have this situation with Batshuayi in the balance is not easy. We don't make excuses, there is no alibi.

'The coach has to speak with the player involved [Batshuayi] in this type of situation. It is not simple, Batshuayi's situation. It is not the best for me or the player. Today he trained well and I prepared the game with him. But you don't know what will happen on Tuesday night or Wednesday.'

Conte has urged the Premier League to avoid a clash between fixtures and deadline day in the future. 'To have this situation with Batshuayi in the balance is not easy. We don't make excuses, there is no alibi. The game tomorrow won't be easy for us.

'This is not right. To have a match when there is a transfer deadline is not right. To have players who are staying half-and-half...in the future the fixture-makers need to reflect and prepare this kind of situation. Many coaches do not like to have a game when there is the deadline.'

Chelsea are on the brink of signing Emerson Palmieri from Roma. The Brazilian wing back has played 105 minutes this season and continues to recuperate from a long-term injury.

Conte said: 'I said that in the case the club sends Kenedy on loan, we have two options. We have to buy another player or work with a young player. The club will inform you of any news. Palmieri had a ligament injury, he is recovering, I don't know if he is ready to play.'

Conte did, however, admit the pursuit of Edin Dzeko has failed.

'As you know well, I don't like to speak about players from another team. Dzeko is a Roma player and he will continue to be a Roma player.'
