DIEGOAL: Costa celebrates his first Chelsea goal [GETTY]

Fabregas, signed from Barcelona for £30m, was involved in all three goals for the Blues, scored by fellow debut-maker Diego Costa, Andre Schurrle and Branislav Ivanovic.

His killer pass for Schurrle had Blues boss Mourinho raving as his men secured the victory that saw them go straight to the top of the Premier League.

“When the players are your first choice it is very difficult for you to have made a mistake – and Fabregas was our first choice for that position,” said Mourinho.

“I know clearly the player he is because we were so many years in the same league, here in England and then when he moved to Spain, when we were in the same league again.

“I knew exactly what he would bring to my team. In Barcelona he was playing No.9, false No.9, winger, so many positions.

“But I know, and he knows better than me, what his best position is.

“He’s giving exactly us what we need, which is that stability, that quick decision in midfield, the right intensity in the game.

“He brings other people along in the same direction and you could see Nemanja Matic was playing different to how he was last season because he can play now in a different way. So I am really happy.”

The second goal ended a 24-pass move and Mourinho said: “It was fantastic, the movement and the quality of the passing and the vision was beautiful.” Chelsea went behind to a goal in the 13th minute from Scott Arfield, but Mourinho was delighted his man did not panic.

"I think we had a good reaction and emotionally we were not affected by the goal conceded,” he added. “We kept playing according to the way were are trying and wanted to play.

"The players are very calm, they never lost their composure and after that we had a fantastic 20 to 25 minutes with three goals, especially the second one, a fantastic goal."

Mourinho was also upset his Costa was booked for diving in the box when challenged by keeper Tom Heaton in the 31st minute. “The kid was obviously frustrated so I hope he doesn’t get any more unfair decisions."

Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: "They are top of the market, but over- all I felt we kept going. They have got so much quality in all areas and can hurt you in any way. There is a big learning curve for us."
