WEL PLAYED: Welbeck's Arsenal team-mates offered their praise to the England man after his stunning Champions League performance [PA]

The England ace netted a hat-trick for Arsene Wenger's side as they coasted to a 4-1 win over the Istanbul giants.

His stunning display saw his team-mates take to Twitter to highlight his contribution, as the Gunners secured their first points in this season's competition.

Welbeck, a £16m deadline day signing from Manchester United, was praised by boss Arsene Wenger for his display against Gala, with the Frenchman admitting he was surprised by just how quick his new signing is.

"I've learned he's a good finisher. Technically he's very sound," Wenger said.

"That was a surprise. He's technically clean and he's a good passer of the ball.

"I knew he was quick, but he can be electric when he starts."

Welbeck himself said: "I'm playing up front, trying to score goals and get opportunities, and tonight it paid off and I got the three goals."

After netting his trio, the 23-year-old was entilted to take the matchball home with him.

However, he admitted that he totally forget to leave the pitch with it when the referee blew the full-time whistle.

"I forgot the match ball, didn't I, but I will get it after," he added.

"My last hat-trick was probably for Manchester United reserves. This is the first of my professional career."
