Jose Mourinho’s men are currently six points clear of their nearest rivals Manchester City and have a game in on the Citizens.

However, despite their healthy lead, Mourinho’s side have looked vulnerable in their last two games against Paris St Germain and Southampton, which they drew.

The Blues’ recent slump in form has caused several Chelsea fans to question if Mourinho’s side have what it takes to maintain their lead over City and secure the club their first league title in five years.

But according to Mourinho, his players aren’t fazed by recent results and are confident of winning the league.

“We are in front the advantage is not half a body, the advantage is significant,” Mourinho said.

“But there’s still a long way to go.

“We are there, we are strong, we are confident and we believe in our capacity to stay there [at the top of the league] until our last match.”

Mourinho’s claim will fill Chelsea fans with huge confidence. But the Portuguese, 52, knows his side still face a difficult task to win the league.

Chelsea’s rivals Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool have all enjoyed late resurgences which have seen them propel up the table.

The trio’s recent good form hasn’t gone unnoticed by Mourinho and he has admitted the traditional Premier League big boys are still in the hunt for the title.

“I think it’s still five [teams] in the race,” he said.

“Because the distance is still mathematically possible.

“Obviously the fifth and the fourth don’t have to fight against one. They have to come up [against] one, not two but three [teams].

“So normally you’d say [the] first three but in reality the distance between two and three, three and four and four and five the distance is so short that I look at them.”

Mourinho’s admission may frighten some Blues supporters. But the former Inter Milan manager has reminded the fans that his team only need 22 more points to win the league.

He said: “If the other teams can make 27 points [then] I need 22 points.

“To be honest with you id prefer to have twenty points more. I’d enjoy much more to have 20 points more.

“But [it’s] normal. It’s a good situation for us.”

As ever, Mourinho have been linked with moves for a host of Europe’s top players. And with the season drawing to a close, the Chelsea chief’s transfer plans have been become the subject of intense speculation.

Mourinho is believed to have a list of players who he wants to bring to Stamford Bridge next summer.

And according to numerous publications on the continent, the Special One is keen to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

The prospect of a summer spending spree has excited Chelsea fans.

However, Mourinho has dealt the Stamford Bridge faithful a big blow by hinting that he has no plans to strengthen his squad this summer.

“Our transfer policy doesn’t need a lot of funds. Because we don’t need a lot of things," he said.

“We like our squad [and] we like our players. With a couple of exceptions we have a young squad.

“Once more I think our transfer policy will be nice and quiet and will also consequence of the players we sell and the funds that we make with the players that we sell.

“I think we are getting great credibility with the players we sell because we sell good players so let’s see what happens.

“But in this moment if you ask me if I’m happy with the squad [I’ll say] yes I’m happy with the squad I have.

“If you ask [if there] are zero movements in or out I say I don’t believe because always want to improve and there’s always a couple of changes to be made.

“I don’t speak about Pogba or other players.

“The only thing I can tell you is that we look to our midfield players and between Fabregas, Matic, Ramires, Ruben, Mikel is injured, but between these guys we have a good group.”
