After being dropped for the home games with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Arsenal last week, the club captain will return to the line-up for the Capital One Cup third round tie in the midlands.

With Diego Costa now banned for three matches following his altercation with Laurent Koscielny in the 2-0 win over the Gunners, Radamel Falcao is expected to start for the first time as a Chelsea player.

Jose Mourinho told Get West London: "Of course John's experience will help. He didn't play the last match so he is completely fresh and completely motivated to play, the same as Falcao for example.

"Chelsea is Chelsea, and wearing the Chelsea shirt always brings responsibility. Every player is more than happy to play."

BACK IN THE FRAME: Terry will start against Walsall

Kurt Zouma and Gary Cahill formed a defensive partnership in the two matches Terry missed, and kept a pair of clean sheets.

The former England skipper is under serious pressure with just nine months left on his contract at the Premier League champions.

Falcao, who scored against Crystal Palace last month, will look to capitalise on Costa's absence for three matches and establish himself in English football.

The 29-year-old has only five goals from 34 appearances for Chelsea and Manchester United combined, as opposed to 155 from 200 games during his time in Portugal, Spain and France.
