The Spanish giants famously attempted to sign the stopper at the end of the 2015 summer transfer window, only for the move to collapse at the 11th hour after a paperwork mix-up.

De Gea signed a new deal with Manchester United after that which saw the transfer talk around him quiet down for a couple of years.

Although earlier this summer, reports emerged that suggested Los Blancos could make another approach for the Spain No.1 ahead of next season.

Now, ESPN say United aren't worried about the prospect of losing their star goalkeeper.

Their report claims club chiefs think Real Madrid don't have the funds to splash on De Gea.

And they note that the 26-year-old is a lot more settled at the club than he was in 2015 when he had a strained relationship with then-manager Louis van Gaal.

Real haven't managed to offload any big name players to increase their cash flow, with James Rodriguez leaving for Bayern Munich on loan instead of a permanent transfer.

And they've already spent £25m on the signing of Theo Hernandez in midfield.
