The 29-year-old defender has just 12 months to run on his current deal and is eager to get something sorted.

He has had preliminary talks about a new long-term contract but is still waiting for the club to come forward with a suitable deal.

Shawcross has been at the club 10 years and Potters boss Mark Hughes is keen to get him tied down.

But as yet, nothing concrete has been agreed and Hughes will urge the club’s power-brokers to try and get the matter sorted.

Shawcross said: "I spoke to Tony Scholes (CEO) at the end of last season and since then we've not spoken again.

“But I've got another year so there's no massive rush. I'm here for another season so that's where we are at.”

He added: "It's up to the club. I have a year left and I can only comment on what I've got.

“If they want to make it longer then I'll be delighted. I've had a great time so far and I want that to continue. But there's got to be a contract there to me sign."

A new four-year deal would effectively see Shawcross see out the bulk of his playing days at the club.
