The market has gone crazy in recent years with fees getting ever more obscene - but by taking inflation into account it is possible to compare past deals to current ones.

The highly-rated Liverpool fanblog Tomkins Times has published a new study looking into how much transfers cost with inflation taken into account.

Paul Tomkins co-created the Transfer Price Index - which allows us to estimate how much previous football deals cost in today’s cash - with Graeme Riley back in 2010.

We have looked at the list of the 100 most expensive transfers and compiled a feasible 4-4-2 formation picking the most expensive available player who has realistically could play in that position.
